Welcome McAngus ! I had a similar experience, but I just watched one episode of the original anime before diving headfirst into the manga !

Yea unfortunately SS is on hiatus but I'm hopeful ;) Infinite definitely compensated in thematic richness/concepts and narrative what it lacked somewhat in gameplay in my opinion. Still a blast to play though !

Both System Shocks are great, they're also remaking the first one in the near future ! You should also try the Bioshock games if you haven't already, very recently finished the 3rd installment (Infinite) and it left a void in my life XD
