that kind of ending just seems to be way too depressing for it to be some kind of happy ending that shows the "GOOD" in the "UGLY" world of berserk. However, it does seem fitting in a horrific and "romantic" sort of way.

When I think about it though some would disagree, I saw Griffith as a romantic hero who fell tragically from grace ( by his own shortsightedness, but hey, he was only human at the time) into a long spiral towards the abyss. I think that was one of the most tragic aspects of the anime and manga for me. So that was why I wasn't really surprised when he took the path he did, because he didn't regard his past actions as a sin. It was romantic and tragic to see that...so I would not be too surprised if there are more of those paradoxical events at all.
