Blackouts! AHHH!!

IMO the news stations are making too big a deal about the blackout shit. and thats only because it effects THEM in their offices in New York. as for me, im in texas and could care less about some senior exec. who cant make his own mocha frappacino. hell those fuckers have wireless cell phones with more functions than my entire computer. thats just my 2 cents....

where exactly in Texas are you? we had a blackout for a day or two a few months ago over here, that supposedly took out pieces of the grid all the way from dallas to houston (I'm at Texas A&M, in Bryan/College Station btw)

This is very true. This is the type of news story where they have emergency bullitins for no reason and show live footage of nothing happening. There is also the feeling that the newscasters are simply making shit up at random.

Dan Rathers: "It appears, from the look of it, power has been restored in parts of Manhatten."

Utilities offficial: "Ummm......It's still pretty quite right now. At this point the power grid from Manhatten is still down. What you are probably looking at is perhaps some of the builings' backup power being activated."

Dan Rathers: "If you are just tuning in, It's just been confirmed by the utilities commisioner that the power has been restored to select buildings throughout Manhatten.

Even though I live in New York i agree. This blackout was not half as bad as those idiotic reporters on the radio made it sound. The traffic is bad but those bastards from new jersey who use this island as a gateway into mannhattan could fuck themselves. Anyway my favorite was this report "red cross reminds you not to move around too much because it could be hazardous to your health"...it's not like anyone will care about that, I mean if you need to get home then you need to get home. I refused to sleep until the power came back to my burough (3:30am) and I was grasping my katana. Today I realized how stupid it was because the city was not in a state of chaos (even though the news made it sound that way).

Furthermore i'd like to say this whole country has gone truly insane. everyone was saying "is this terrorism?" if we can't have a 12 hour power outage without thinking of terrorism we all need help, terrorism is not the root of all problems. I guess i was the only one laughing when this happened because i was actually thinking of hack//liminality at that time. I say the blackout was our fault and it was caused because of Mayor Bloomberg's incopetence (which is caused by his greed). The fact that this made news in other countries shows why there are alot of nacacists in new york.

This reminds me of that rolling blackout shit here, honestly, the news made a huge deal out of it, but I don’t remember experiencing a single blackout or any ramifications of the “power shortage.”. And they STILL run those God damned “save power” ads around here because Gray Davis probably bought air time until the year 2005. But yeah, the East Coast can sink into the ocean for all I care. I live in the land of Manifest Destiny, dewds! 8)

Most likely, the cause of the power outage is that there is a constant increase in power demands over the last few decades, and utility companies are too cheap and lazy to replace their antiquated equipment. That said.....It's actually kind of nice to be let out of your electric cage every once in a while. God forbid, you actually have to go outside and talk to somebody.

Note: It might be nice if the nationnal government were to start some public service projects to deal with our increasing energy problems.

ZOMBIES they are everywere ....
well for what i saw one the news it sounded bad put reading ShinHell9 post i guess news reporters are the same all over the world

some news stations are airing blackout "safety" procedures. wtf? i think we've all at some point had our power go out in a storm. are these people stupid? if a blackout gets this much media coverage, god help us when something significant happens. plus i think they were hoping people would start looting and starting riots. i think the US is slowly going insane. the capital of insanity you ask? CALIFORNIA! what the hells wrong with these people? 200+ people are running of governor among the Schwarzenagger, gary coleman, larry flynnt, and a 100 year old woman. Seriously. sounds more like and Austrian sick fetish porno than an election. the best thing about it is watching conan o'brien do the fake interviews with Arnold. hilarious.

Yea, i was wasting my time watching tv as people were walking around the streets all day long. Hey, ShinHell, i might've seen you! ;)

Anyways, as for the Governor of California race, I'm gonna stick with Davis. Quite frankly i dont believe in Arnold, he'll just cut spending, which affects college students (higher tuition), and i dont wanna pay more than 20K a year.....for a (hopefully good) UC

Oh yea, Who gives a shit about blackouts? we've all had blackouts before, nothing too scary about them...

I'm gonna vote for Arnold for the fuck of it by the way i live here in L.A. and if there's a blackout your gonna see riots here that's how crazy L.A. is.

As for the blackout, i live in Quebec and we had rumors about Montreal didn't have any electricity. But there was only Toronto and Ottawa (i think). I was watching tv with my cousin that came from DC for the weekend and a reporter had an interview with a guy from Hydro-Quebec (the powerplants) he was saying that we would have a major shutdown for 60% of the Quebec province for 5-6 hours to help restarting other powerplant in Ontario and in the US. My city was not supposed to be touched by that shut down so i didn't really bothered but there was a major article in the papers this morning talking about the blackout an they said that the guy interviewed was an imposter and there was no one called "don't remember his name" that work for Hydro-Quebec. And now i don't even know what really append.. i only know that a powerplant had trouble and another powerplant took the relay and it was overcapacity so another powerplant busted.. i think there's about 5 powerplants that shutdowned caused by overcapacity. The only avantage in all this is that we know that the grid react well, it took 3 minutes to bust 5 powerplants :p What i mean by reacting well is that we know that the relay work and in a small delay.

The black out wasnt shit, we lost power for 18 hours here in Detroit. They acted as if every little piece of news was a breaking story. Funny thing, I went out and waited about 1-2 hours to get gas (Long lines) and after I got it I came back and we had power

yeah i dont know what the news had to say about it sense my tv wasnt working and i got bored listening to the radio, but it was nothing, me and some friends went up to the mall and played ultimate frisbee for two hoursin the dark, the only thing that made me laugh was when i did get power back, the news was calling it the great black out of 2003, which is kinda starnge since it was still happening, what other blackout would they be talking about?

I live near the dallas area and we've never gone more than 15 minutes without power for all the years I've lived here.
