From the Elf-Man theory thread I heard a much better theory that I have since found much information to support.
This is Gatts as Fish-Man.
Important things are:
1) Gatts was shown to breath underwater during the part when he went up against the Atlantean Apostle as shown in the Berserk OAV series.
2) The way Gatts fangs look, just like a fish.
3) Gatts mystery father? Who could it be besides a fish person? But who could the mystery father be? It must be the Count! The Count became a a Fish Apostle of Atlantis. Look at the way the columns look during the Count fight? Very Atlantean (Greek or Roman!).
Plus the count's head looks fish like with the little tentacle things and he has fish scales! So the Count is like a Fishman that also got combined with an elephant or brontosauras which explains the legs. And remember how the Count had to sacrifice someone dear to him for the Godhand and he picked Gatts? Obviously this means Gatts is his son!
4) This explains why Pack never found Elfish emenations, they were covered up by Gatts fishy smell!
5) Gatts is also fathered by Adon because Adon is the captain of Blue Whales and so they gave birth to Gatts and then killed his mom. This is so they were hoping Gatts would never develop his full fish powers, since Fish live outside the realm of causality "fate" because of their ability to turn into fish sticks and be eaten with chips.
6) The Plan of the Future
Erika, the true hero of Berserk, will become the Berserk Chef and turn Adon, Gatts, the Count, and Isidoro (he is fish people too, note the resemblance to Gatts) into fish sticks of power and feed them to Caska. She will regain her sanity thanks to the good tasting food which will remind her of happiness. She will gain magic power and transform into the Soldier of Love Sailor Caska. She already has a sword with a heart on it so she will also become She-Ra, the Princess of Power.
