Speculation Nation / Re: Skull Knight = The Flower Storm King
« on: April 05, 2013, 02:50:45 PM »
I think what really bugged me was my first clue which was the puck thinking that SK felt like an elf. It still bugs the hell out of me. Why say that...why would Miura write that?

It might be that SK feels like an elf because he was cured by the King of Elfhelm. Something along the line of the story of Pircaf: he was so heavily wounded by the berserker's armor that in order to save his life the King of the Flower Storm had to make him less human and more "elvish"?

I don't think that this is really possible.

For now, we have no way to know if it is possible or not (I think?  :schnoz:), but I would really like it if the child could stay with the group longer than a full moon night.

I'm thinking that something could clue us in about the creature's origin. That maybe it wasn't always such a formidable monster, and grew from its original state into what it is now. It's just wild speculation and I don't have any specific theory as to what they might find further in right now.

When I first saw the Sea God's mouth (very remniscent of Ganishka as it's been said before) I had a crazy thought about the Sea God's origin: that maybe he was some sort of equivalent of Ganishka from a thousand years ago or more, or at least a creature linked to an previous merging between realities (which would mean that what happened with Griffith is not the first merging between the astral world and the physical world). Of course I have nothing to support that theory, and though I like the idea, it doesn't feel too likely.
But the presence of his statue in the village, the stories about the merrows and the Sea God, all of it indicates that at some point in the past, the existence of the Sea God was heavily felt in the physical world, not just the astral world.
Anyway I'm not too comfortable with the notions of layers of reality, so please don't beat me if what I'm saying is completely out of line!

Huh? Could you explain what you mean? The incomplete panels shown in the preview are cropped together from several different pages, unless you're talking about the way one of the four images is designed... anyway, what?

Yeah, I do realize that the panels are not directly related, but the image of Guts reaching the mouth, and the Captain mentioning that the Ceremony was reaching its climax just after that, gave me that impression when I looked at it. That's all, really. :slan:

The way the panels are put, it almost feels like Guts entering the Sea God's mouth is a part of the ceremony...

its king Triton

Man, I was thinking the same thing... :farnese:

Well, King Triton definitely stole Poseidon's look anyways, right?

Jokes aside, I am very excited about all this! Kinda reminds me of volume 10 and the glimpse we got of Gaiseric's city at the bottom of the tower.

Darn, I knew it right from the start!!!
Great job guys, that was a very good prank! Everyone played along so well I actually ended up doubting myself, and I was starting to believe it was really true after all! :ganishka:

By pretty much every metric, I believe he has

My feeling is quite the opposite. Actually I think that ever since the beast began to come out, Guts' personality has been more "schizoid" in the sense that there is a very clear separation between his "sane" part and the Beast. So, yeah, when the Beast comes out, he is more menacing than ever, but the rest of the time he has grown much more sociable and calm than he was during, let's say, the Lost Children chapter. Back then he was really scary at times.
Now, it's not that I don't worry, but it feels like the presence of all the members of his group gives off such a feeling of security and warmth, that it lulls his own sense of danger (at least that's the feeling I get). What I mean is that, in my opinion, the real danger now is that Guts relies so much on Schierke's magic to bring him back every time he releases the Beast, he's getting too confident that she's always gonna be there to help when things get ugly. And it seems that the more he uses the armour, the stronger the bond with the Beast / armour is getting. so much so that last time Schierke couldn't intervene... Of course maybe I'm reading too much in this. Besides, that stronger bond was also an effect of the full moon, so it is difficult at this point to tell at what point it is true

Manga Mausoleum / Re: Disparity between nude men and women
« on: November 10, 2010, 04:15:19 PM »
That's true. The first time I read Berserk I was surprised how "normal" women in Berserk look (besides :slan:).

Yeah, but even Slan looks pretty normal (well, except for the wings and hair, obviously), I mean she is definitely hotter than the average woman, but her body shape is realistic, and she doesn't give the impression that plastic surgery has already been invented in the world of Berserk. :iva:

And concerning the nude women being shockingly normal-looking, well, I did notice that all the women gathered by Ganishka in Wyndham looked the same (blond, thin, etc), but it seemed obvious to me that they were not important  enough characters to bother spending time and reflexion putting more variety of shapes and colors in that crowd. I mean, the only information we need is that they're midlanders, young enough to get pregnant, and scared. And compared to how many and unimportant they are as individuals, I think they're still drawn in a lot of detail, and I am grateful to Miura for the care he puts in his work, even for such minimal things.
Other than that, I never missed the lack of ugly naked ladies. Actually it's such a non issue to me that I didn't notice it!

Ah, but now that I think about it, the only pair of breasts that really caught my attention is Casca's, though it's a special case since she's a main character. At first her breasts were small and firm, then they got a lot bigger in volume 11 (because she was pregnant, I suppose), and when we see her naked in volume 23, her breasts have gotten a little bit saggy, it seems. Anyway, nothing unusual here. Actually it's the kind of realistic detail that I appreciate in Berserk! :rakshas: ( :farnese: )

Maybe it's just me but doesn't it look like the Moonlight boy has grown quite a bit since the last time we saw him? I gotta get my hands on volume 28 to compare!

Wow, there's so much going on, what an exciting preview!!! :ubik:
I didn't expect the Moonlight Boy to appear at this point. How the hell did he get here? Does it mean that he can come and go as he pleases whenever it is full moon, no matter where Griffith's body is? Or did Griffith come along?
Or am I completely wrong thinking that the boy is Guts' and Casca's son? :???:

Just finished A Storm of Swords, book 3 of A Song of Ice and Fire.
I didn't think they could make Jaime too sympathetic, also god damn! Killing off Robb and Catelyn in the same chapter? The Red Wedding was a bit much if you ask me and if Tyrion had also died in this book... :mozgus: I still somehow hoping the Hound shows up in book 4... but I doubt it.
So far I'd say my favorite characters have been Sansa because I thought her point of view was one of the most interesting, Tyrion, The Hound, and Jon Snow.

I finally finished book 3, and I just began book 4.
I don't worry too much about the Hound, it makes absolutely no doubt to me that Martin is not done with him. Also, it would be too lame an ending for such a character!

I see what you mean, but still, it seems to me that whenever she's offered a choice, she makes the stupid one, and whenever she can do something, she doesn't, and at length it gets irritating. That being said, I'm still waiting to see how she will evolve to forge a definite opinion of her.

As a young female character, I prefer Daenerys by far, she's got a strong evolution and is really interesting. Besides her point of view is quite unique as she is completely outside of Westeros, unlike all the other narrators. And I don't dislike Arya's personality either in a "straightforward tomboy pipsqueak" kinda way.

I know, that's what I get for letting my eyes wander where they shouldn't...  :schnoz:

I didn't read as far as you, I'm somewhere in the middle of book 3. I wouldn't pick Sansa as my favorite character, I find her much too annoying at times, but the other characters you mentionned are definitely among my favorites, especially Tyrion and The Hound.

Damn, I read your spoiler, I shoudn't have!!! :isidro:

Character Cove / Re: Changes in Casca
« on: August 28, 2010, 04:48:25 PM »

The thing I anticipate most in the story of berserk is the return of the sane Casca. :casca:

Same here!

But I didn't realize that she loses muscle as well. So if she were to come back to her normal self, I wonder if she will mention how weak she has gotten. Will she retain her swordsmanship?

As Aaz pointed out, after all this time without fighting or training, the loss of muscle was to be expected. The contrary would have surprised me a lot! But I'm confident that she will gain it all back once she's sane again (that is, assuming she wants to)

I skipped a bunch of the smaller changes, such as the love she grew for her demon-child. Already she has had many changes in her personality.

Well I don't think this is a "small" change in Casca's personality. Her motherly instinct is clearly strong, and partially shakes her off of her mental condition occasionally (I'm referring to what happens with the moonlight boy, she behaves like a mother instead of her usual childlike state, and she's very protective towards the child). I'm sure it will have a crucial importance once she comes back to her senses. For now, she is deeply attached to the demon child, but will it still be the case when she's sane again? Will she even remember him? (I sure hope so!) And how will it affect her decisions in the future?

A critical moment that lies ahead in the story line is the awakening of Casca.
Yeah, and all the possibilities that it implies is what makes it so exciting and fascinating. I mean, sometimes when I try to imagine how it can be like, it makes me dizzy! :ubik: :ubik: :ubik:
I am very anxious to see how things will go with Guts, of course, but I'm also very curious about the relationship she will have with all the members of the group, especially Farnese.

Will she become a lesbian who hates all men?
Hahaha I actually considered this possibility! After Schierke initiated her to witchcraft, will Farnese take another step in her journey of self discovery and open herself to another new experience? Poor Roderick didn't see that one coming! :ganishka:

Anything can happen, maybe she will stay childlike permanently (noooo!) or she could seek revenge on Griffith. I personally would love to see Casca get intimate with Guts again, but according to Skully, she might not want to be brought back (foreshadowing oOoOoOo..), and then Miura will laugh at seeing me weep for the old Casca (the lovable one).

It seems extremely unlikely to me that Casca just stays like that. And concerning what Skully tells Guts about her wishes, its so vague I try not to interprete it too much.

So for now, I'm expecting the worst  so I can be delightfully surprised later. :guts:
I'm expecting Miura to exceed my expectations as he always does :puck:

Ah, OK, sorry, I didn't know that! :serpico:
Well I voted for Guts anyway, because it seems the most likely, and if we don't see the tentacles, at least I'd expect something related to the sea, or the island, or the pirate ship.

The "Guts doing something" option reminded me of that image that accompanied episode 308:

Of course I don't know wether it will end up as a poster or the cover or neither, but I could definitely imagine volume 35 with this on the cover. I'd prefer it to be something new, though.

All right, but if the point of the ceremony is the rebirth of the Sea God, maybe there is no Sea God to slay yet. What if the malignant presence that Schierke and Isma felt in the cave was only the slugs?

nor whether there will be a ceremony at all if Guts slaughters everything.

On the other hand it would be pretty disappointing if the ceremony didn't take place at all.

It's not that obvious to me, after all we never see their feet, they're always hidden by something. Although in the case of the two villagers sitting in the tavern, I can't imagine how they can be connected to anything that wouldn't be spotted by Guts or someone else. This is all very intriguing :carcus:

I wonder what's happening on board of the Sea Horse right now, is the ship also being attacked by the sea cucumbers? I wonder if the cannons would be enough to defend the ship, somehow I doubt it. Maybe it will be a good occasion for some Azan action :azan:

About half way through Wizards First Rule.
I tried this one not too long ago and I don't know how I managed to finish it. One of the most boring books I ever read. Right now I'm reading the second volume of A Song of Ice and Fire, so far I like it.
