Character Cove / Re: Puck - Anyone miss how he was early on?
« on: August 13, 2008, 03:07:53 PM »
This might be a little off the subject but since we are talking about Puck I have a theory.   I think Puck is the son of the Elf King. Sure I might be going off the limb here but I suspect there's more to Puck's identity then meets the eye.    For reason that are yet to be revealed I think he ran away from home because he does not want to take up the responsibilities of being a prince.  His reasons for saying he was bored makes me curious about him. Has anyone ever noticed Puck doesn't give much details about Elfhelm. He didn't even tell Guts and company about the Elf King and the reasons why he left Elfhelm were very vague.  So to anyone reading this don't go making some geeky remarks I am totally wrong on my theory and its only a theory with no proven facts.   I thought I should throw that out here discuss it and maybe a few years from now we will see the answer to this theory.

Speculation Nation / Re: If Guts uses his beherit
« on: July 21, 2008, 11:42:55 PM »
Think. First off, he doesn't actually want to use the beherit....

Well then try to explain to me that in volume 24, on Guts asking Flora how to use the Beherit, if I am not mistaken he wants to use the Beherit for revenge or didn't she state this when she asked Guts on why he wants to use it for? Also he's been warned by both Flora and Godo if he continues to walk this path it can destroy him and the things he cares about

Second, what would using it bring him? Apostle powers (what you call the "Darkside" I guess)?

Most likely to fight them head on.  Wasn't that the reason why he kept it in the first place when he fought the Count in volume 3?  Was to be on the same playing field?

And seeking revenge has nothing to do with using the beherit.  It's just about chasing Griffith and trying to kill him. He hates the God Hand, he hates apostles, so why would he want to become one? That'd be completely against his principles....If it had to be someone, anyone, then I am convinced that it'd be Casca.

This is where I strongly disagree seeking revenge has a lot to do with using that Beherit. Its like what Flora said, Beherit gives the owner what he or most desires.  Guts might not necessarily wants their power to become one of them but like I said earlier he wants to kill them on the same ground that they are on.  Whose to say that this really is against Guts principles?  The Beast of Darkness is as much a part of his personality. If the Beast took over its still Guts even though its not the Guts we know and love you really can't say its not Guts.  As for Casca, I am still befuddle by what your saying because a sacrifice already branded can't be used as a sacrifice again you said this yourself when you refered to volume 3.

There's like no chance of it ever happening though. From a storytelling point of view it makes no sense at all, and it goes directly against the character's mentality.

How can it not make sense at all? He's got the Beherit, he wants to use it which can potientially lead him to the Darkside.  How can it go against his mentality when he's being tempted to seek revenge vice saving Casca's condition.  Sure it may not go that way in future stories but the threat of him succumbing to his dark nature is still there.

It'd be Casca, who can't be sacrificed a second time.

I agree with you that Casca can't be sacrificed a second time but Gut is already attached to his new companions.  So why can't they be not considered potiential sacrifices?  They are just as valuable to him as Casca or valuable enough to be consider close to him.

Speculation Nation / Re: 20 years later
« on: July 21, 2008, 07:37:14 AM »
The 20 years later picture was a gag pulled by the moderators here at, photoshopped from other soruces in the manga. For example, Isidro's pose in that picture is taken directly from guts holding a cross bow in the berserk prototype included in book 14.

Your joking right?  Whew for a second there when I first saw that pic I was really going to be disappointed where the direction of the series was going to go. But then I started to accept it and let life go on and lets see where this series was going to go. I mean who knows maybe the moon child has grown up and becomes the bearer of the Dragon Slayer or something like that.   Gawd they had me fooled. Thank God it didn't happen.

if the branded Guts can uses beherit, maybe he will actually use the beherit in the final confrontation with griffith to give him extra power to match Griffith&his army?....who do you think will be the sacrifice? (exclude Casca, coz she is already branded)
what do you think?

Can a Sacrifice use a Beherit?  That would interesting.   The Beherit hasnt' left him yet so Guts just might very well be the new owner.  If he ever does activate it then most likely his sacrifices will be his new companians.  He's already got his apostle form already which is the Beast of Darkness.  Of course this might not happen since its only speculation.  But then that is what's threatening Guts going down the Path of Darkness to become a monster like Griffith.

Speculation Nation / 20 years later
« on: July 20, 2008, 07:48:55 AM »
Some how I predict that once Griffith takes over Midland, the story will shift 20 years later. I am sure most people remember that picture which shows Isidro and Schierke all grown up and you get the impression Guts might be an old man since it only shows his eyes and white hair on the side. Anyway here's what I am predicting, darkness has ruled over Midland. King Griffith decides to spread his reach to Skellig island to destroy what's threatening him.  Forcing Guts to come out of hiding and bring the battle to Midland.  It sounds to me the story is far from over.  I would say the story would be done in 10 more years.

I don't mind the waiting either. The fact the series has a consistent writer/artist and brings out great quality in his work makes it worth the wait. When you compare his stuff to some of the American comicbooks over here they can't hold a candle to Miura-sans work.

Character Cove / Re: Azan and his reaction to...
« on: December 27, 2007, 12:13:59 AM »
Well, I'd say he can take care of himself with his good old metal quarterstaff, but if he were to need a magical weapon (why not along with Casca or even Roderick) I'm sure he'd have no problem finding one in Elfhelm.

Speaking of magical weapons I wonder what powers the Axe had that was meant for Guts?  I know Azan wouldn't use that type of weapon but it would be nice to know that the magical went into Azan's possession.

Encyclopedia: Q&A / Goat God

I tried to do a search on this board on the Goat God character that appeared in volume 18 and 19. I am wondering who is that character. I also tried to look him up on google as well and the only thing I came close was a name "Baphomet" and the image is almost similiar to the Berserk character. Anyway what I found interesting is that character appeared in the movie the "300" and if you noticed the Goat God was surround in an environment of lust.  Anyway idea who this character is?

Awesome episode, it's amazing how Farnese has grown since the start, she took not being Guts number 1 really well and is only mad because Casca can't seem to notice what Guts is doing for her (but she has gone through serious trauma so its not really her fault). Schierke is the one I'm dissapointed in, I didn't think she'd feel this serious about Guts. Her thinking of a moment they had together and holding onto it saying no one else has had that moment but me.. worries me about her possible stability later on when and if Casca ever recovers from her mental state.

I also like the human drama being develop here in this episode. Personally I would like to see Guts maybe considering Farnese as a potiential love interest even though its not going to happen.  It is certainly amazing how much she changed in the story. As for Casca if she ever does recover from her mental state, I predict she might still reject Guts.

Sounds interesting, but it doesn't seem very popular.

It probably wasn't popular or its one of the many stories in japan that never gets done. Hopefully this weekend i'll post some of the artwork. The style is similar to Miura-san art.

Shootin' the Breeze / Re: Im conflicted on a new manga, please help!

Ok Im not shure which series to start buying; Blade of the Immortal or Vagabond?? they both seem so bad ass but I only have enough money at the moment to start only one of those 2 series, and I'm not shure what it should be?
Berserk(duh the best ever!), Hellsing, Akira, Ghost in the Shell(only ones by Shirow Masamune), and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

You know what my answer is...NEITHER! That's right they both suck. jking. I guess i'd be more partial to blade since i am more familiar with the character but seriously if you want a really good series to really wet your appetite for fantasy/samurai action get Bleach. Its the most popular manga that's out right now and I highly recommend it. Let me know if you want to know more about this series.

Yeah, that poll was nonsensical. And I haven't heard of this series either, sorry.

Wow that is surprising. The story is written by Kengo Kaji & Art by Kenji Okamura. It is about a high school track star named Leo Takizawa who recently discovers he's a Lycanthrope Lion (or were lion) on his 15th birthday.  His adoptive father notices the first metaphorsis is happening to his son and decides to kill him b/c his father is a hunter of lycanthropes and has this perverted view that he would purify his son by killing him as a human and freeing him from the beast within. His father reveals to Leo that he killed his real mother but didn't have the heart to kill Leo b/c he and his wife didn't have children of their own.  Right as his father is about to kill his son, Leo out of self defense changes into a beast and kills his father.
Later in the story Leo discovers others like him and there are three factions who want him on their side or destroy him. One are the hunters which are the human side and hunts lycanthropes, the other is the protectorate who are lycanthrope radicals (mostly carnivores) who want to replace the human race and the last are the herbivore lycanthrope who want to live in peace. Obviously Leo is a carnivore he is considered the rarest and most powerful of his species but what makes him unique is that he was raised by humans and he questions the Protectorates motives in destroying the human race especially when he encounters a Lycanthrope Buffalo who becomes his mentor.   Its a really good series its almost as good as Berserk and I highly recommend it so check it out. There's only one paperback so far in the states. I am trying to look for a site if they completed it in japan.

Hey for all manga experts out there. Anyone heard of Lycanthrope Leo? I bought the paperbacka long time ago and leaves a cliff hanger of an ending. I find out that Viz cancelled the series. I was wondering for any of you manga fans or experts iif this series was continued in japan? Or is it named differently? Is there a site dedicated to the series that gives a more synopsis of the series. Thanks a bunch

Daiba and the Kundalini on the other hand were on another level so a few apostles would have probably died, but once again I don't think they could have held back 20 apostles including Zodd.

Zodd and company would definitely have a tougher time with Daiba and the Kundalini. I would imagine Daiba would use his powers to push Zodd and company back and allow the Kundalini to shoot its powerful "water beam".  Zodd  would have to use his apostles as guinea pigs to distract Daiba in order to get to the Kundalini snake or Daiba.

Speculation Nation / Re: Fighting the Neo-Hawks
« on: June 16, 2006, 01:25:55 PM »
Like Black_Devil said, a few apostles acknowledge his skill and talent, but calling it global respect from the Neo Hawks is already going a bit far. Even Zodd still talks to him like if he were worthless. Ganishka is probably the one giving him the most credit right now.

Aaz I think i am going to strongly disagree with you on the part about Zodd thinking Guts as being worthless or talks to him in that manner. I think Zodd does give Guts a lot of credit due to the encounters they had in the past. Here are the facts that says Zodd respect Guts as a warrior
1. Guts manages to not only disarm him but he also wounds him in their first encounter.
2. Zodd throws his sword to Guts in the final battle of Tudor.
3. Zodd even says in vol 22 page 3 in their second encounter:
"I admire you. You broke my prophecy and survived!!
I am really happy, boy!!!"

It would be interesting to see Locus now have a crack at Guts and company. As for who if Azan shows up and joins Guts band one of these days then yes i would love to see those to go at it.   I like the fact Neo Hawks have a gruding respect for Guts. It might be possible that their loyalty for Griffith could waver b/c Guts is just one cool bad azz. On the otherhand that's just wishful thinking.

I am sure he can easily kill more then 100 with his skills these days. i just wonder how many can he kill before he collapses in one battle. And lets choose an army of human merceneries. I would think now he can kill 1000. With all of his gadgets and power of the Armor.

Speculation Nation / Re: Berserk on a motion picture?!?!?
« on: June 15, 2006, 01:50:14 PM »
You're retarded. I hate you. This idea is so fucking awful that those who read it risk developing terminal cancer.
First of all we don't need any name calling b/c everyone has a right to their own opinion. If you don't agree with it, fine thats your deal. I don't need the rude remarks.

As a long time film fan/student and graphic novel reader (of which Manga is a subset) and as a relatively new Berserk fan (three years is a drop in the bucket compared to many others, though I love the story I am not going to act as if I were here from the fucking beginning of fucking time) I can't thank the heavens enough that a great deal of posters on this forum (and you know who you are) have no control over such an endeavor if it is ever to occur. Once I hear the title Berserk and the performer known as "The Rock" (especially in regard to Guts) in the same sentence, I check out - you absolutely lose me. I am not trying to be mean - but if you want to piss people off suggest the Rock.

Once again we don't need the name calling. This is supposed to be a message board where we share ideas and have fun. I am sure there other qualified actors to play the part but the Rock or Karl sticks out my mind as being Guts. If you want to provide some input on this then go ahead i would love to hear your ideas on who would be the perfect actor/acteress

As far as a big screen adaption - it is impractical. Maybe adaptation of Manga into live action will really take off if Battle Angel is successful; but even then - you will be hard pressed to find any studio willing to put the type of budget you'd need for a progress of this magnitude, behind a existentially dark, extremely and unrelentingly violent (both martially and sexually) story. In which rape, incest, and torture are major themes. Let's be realistic the money needed for a film adaption of a series of this scale (filmed concurrently is a lot), is more than most would want to spend on something so obscure and violent. That is reality.

Again we share our ideas about what we would like to see in the Berserk universe for fun. I don't see why you have to start bashing other people for their ideas and opinions.
