Current Episodes / Re: Episode 307

We don't know the details of how the capital city of his empire was built, you said so yourself. But presumably magic and astral creatures were not uncommon during Gaiseric's time, so who's to say no supernatural elements were involved at all? And why is the supernatural itself automatically assumed to be a bad thing? Furthermore, why is the merging of the worlds reduced to a "price" Griffith had to pay for Falconia, when it's an event of a much bigger magnitude?

I'm just going off the presumption that he built it without magic to try and address how Walter was probing for thoughts, seeing as how he didn't want to go into the speculative domain regarding the how.

But as far as the supernatural itself thing though, I'm not saying its bad, I'm just saying it'd be more remarkable if Gaiseric's empire was built without supernatural elements, whereas Griffith's kingdom was basically laid out before him after the sacrifice and everything, it's just the thought of it being something Gaiseric achieved on his own, though there's no way to verify if that was indeed the case, or how his empire fit into the plans at that time. Hopefully I managed to word my post better instead of fumbling it up :X.

^Agree 100% with the above post Walter, I know you wanted to steer away from the legends aspect, but if I may add, remember how Flora would tend to the berserk armor for SK? Schierke I believe did mention how Flora would fondly tend to the armor, and I don't think she'd hold any positive sentiment or attachment to an extravagant hedonist as in the legends.

^I see what you mean, and agreed on the how being a dead end, but in that case It's looking more like Gaiseric was probably more on the path of the "right idea" as you mentioned, because it may sound cold, but his actions really only effected the people he forced into labor, Griffith's has literally sacrificed the state of the world to achieve what Gaiseric did, so obviously the price here is much higher, and like you mentioned, Gaiseric's kingdom was real in that it didn't require supernatural elements to be built, so while Falconia is all bright and sparkly, Gaiseric should be praised as he didn't have all the backing Griffith did.

EDIT: I'm hoping that's what you were looking for as far as a change in direction *picks up head and scurries off*

But you don't think the story as told through Judo had been skewered Walter? With the possibility of the angels being the godhand(though not confirmed), I'm still reluctant to believe things went down as was written.  :SK:

Femto didn't make a prophecy. Or did you mean the prophecy read by Farnese in vol 14 and Schierke in vol 22 regarding the Falcon of Darkness?

Hahah don't hurt me Walter! Been mia the past few days and just dropped in to see what people were talking about. But yeah I'm referring to the Falcon of Darkness' prophecy, as Falconia's so clean looking and stuff, it suddenly shifting to demons r us would make me shit myself. >.<

Excellent stuff from this episode. Though I'm really iffy on this episode for one reason, that being all the shiningness and sparkles are kind of unsettling considering  :femto:'s "prophecy", wonder how long it's gonna last since everyone's marching in there like sheep to the slaughter so to speak.

edit: also a small comment about the statues on the entrance, did they remind anyone else of Roman soldiers? Was a pretty cool touch imo.

^that guarantee's more than good enough for me  :guts:

edit: was reading aaz's mention of the spectres and the others eventually attacking humans, makes me think human's are pretty much fucked at this point :X

So aaz, do you think Femto will finally shed his clean image to the midlanders now? Seems like the perfect opportunity to pull the wool from over their eyes and just subjugate them, wonder how Sonia will react. :X

Silly question, but with the worlds completely merged now, could this mean that the Idea is floating around somewhere?

Thanks a lot for the preview Aaz, and great episode, looks like Skully's gonna have a lot more chances at Void now, :SK:

EDIT; also had to smile a bit at the huge dragon spread, I think it should have a grudge match with Grunberd.  :mozgus:

^which is why I added that part about the beherit apostle injecting power into him, so what would you qualify him as? a quasi apostle? meh, if not I'll just take him out the list.

EDIT: also, you seem miffed at that someone could feel for Femto, you could find sympathy for a lot of disgusting figures, sure I mentioned the apotles we got back story on, but that shows they're not all just some 100% evil raping monsters, they're still human when you get to the bottom of it, and that may be a chilling fact, but that can also allow for some sympathy, even for Femto.(not an apostle, but just using him as part of my point.)

Hahaha, the ORIGINAL God Hand? Ohh, I thought you meant the one and ONLY God Hand. :ganishka:

I don't think Miura's under any obligation to go into each of their stories. Their origins were never foreshadowed, and honestly, I only really expect a brief explanation of Void's background and how/if it relates to Gaiseric/SK. But Conrad, Slan and Ubik? I'm not betting any money we'll find out too much more about them.

Just posting to say that I hope you're wrong on that, as they're still such crucial figures to the story that I'd like to see atleast who they were pre-godhand, especially Slan. :o

Only apostles I felt sorry for were the Count, Ganishka, Rochine, Mozgus(he was a jackass, and a religious sadist, but he truly did believe in his god, which was the sad part :mozgus:), and the Beherit Apostle(which is surprising to me that he wasn't mentioned yet.) Just him growing up treated like the trash of society, only to be turned into that shape, and then be sacrificed along with guts/Casca's child to bring about Griffith's new vessel. I mean I know that's what he wanted, but that was still a sad way to go. I don't think he killed anybody either though, but I think he infused mozgus with apostle powers(aaz will correct me though I'm sure of it.)

That is a good question actually. It could have been the natural course of things in the astral world, just like both species might have just met for the first time. They probably lived on the same layer of the astral world, but the question is: did they live in the same area? Think of the Qliphoth and how only evil creatures dwelled there.

But wasn't the Qliphoth created by Slan? Or did she just take residence there? If the former, would you count that as a natural occurance in the astral world?

dear God I hope there are no Dragons.... It will be too much like inheritance series and somehow I don't see them fitting in Berserk manga. The dragon mythology is too well-developed in fiction and as Aaz said Miura seems to put a spin on all the 'creatures'. In a way Grunberd's apostle form could be called a dragon and well Guts does carry the 'dragon slayer' so may be.....

Could be called a Dragon? Grunberd's whole motif is draconic, even his nickname :schierke:

EDIT: Whoaaaaaaah so many responses in such a short amount of time

And as predicted, Aaz did indeed roast me :P, wasn't trying to sound facetious, just wanted to see actual demons other than apostles(Though would you count trolls?)

Seriously, seeing the planet from space does bring back a few interesting points that are rarely discussed. Is the whole universe made of 3 or more overlapping worlds? What is the reach of the Idea of Evil's power? Is its power limited to one planet? Are there astral beings in space? And so on. Really tricky and awfully speculative topic, though. :guts:

Doesn't its' reach only extend to humans though? :X If not please don't kill me.

Really cool episode, though honestly, I was expecting more demonic figures than Unicorns. >_> Though the hydra's cool, wonder if we'll get any eastern mythology like the Yuki-Onna, or even Hindu mythology, maybe Indra himself? :o

That is.....if Aolsier doesn't show up. *runs out of Aaz and Walter's clutches*

Really great preview, as soon as I saw the spread, I seriously went WTF!!!!!

I'm really interested to see what effect the Yobimizu no Tsurugi will have on Femto if any, as obivously a God Hand (especially the anointed one Femto) is much higher on the plane than the Qliphoth, though this was what he was waiting for, I doubt he'll "die"(if that's even possible for him) though as a previous poster mentioned, but I wouldn't be surprised if the YnT is deflected or doesn't have the effect intended. :/

EDIT: Also remember having a convo with Aaz over a year ago about if we'd ever see Ganishka's apostle form, and from the looks of that summary, looks like he was right again, dammit. X_X

16
BLG: Just Zodd's always fighting lifestyle(though admittedly he's toned it down since joining Griffith) would lead me to believe he'd die first, but upon second thought, he's no longer the wandering warrior constantly seeking battles, so maybe not.

17
Zodd. Just because he's had the longest tenure, I'd see him dying before any of the other ones, but of course this could also work in his favor as him being the last one to die.  I think either Guts or SK will end Zodd's legend.

Berserk Miscellaneous / Miura lost to Idolmaster?
« on: March 29, 2009, 04:16:21 AM »
Forgive me and delete if already posted.

Quote from: sankakucomplex.com
The Madness of Kentarou Miura

Berserk mangaka Kentarou Miura has given up manga in order to become a full-time Nico-maniac, with his days spent watching Idolmaster MADs and typing in insightful strings of “www”.

Lately he has even taken to interfering with the work of uninfected mangaka, attempting to turn them by way of classes held at his home.

His long-time friend and fellow mangaka Kouji Mori (who recently completed his long-running “Holy Land” manga and so is especially vulnerable) reports being subjected to just such an attempt, a two hour course on the secrets of NicoNico Idolmaster videos.

Fans are exasperatedly asking that Miura return to completing his magnum opus, though his symptoms do not appear to be in remission…

@Aaz: Yea remember when I posted the thread about the true swords one? Hah, this is basically the same sword with a few minor alterations and a new description.

21
For anyone who remembers my old thread about the previous ds, there's a new model by a different company this time, I found it when doing a search for guts.

Just one thing I'd also like to take note of is the recurring appearances of the apostle that took Guts' arm. I really want him to survive to a point where he'll run into Guts again. The other apostle that took his eye hasn't appeared again to my knowledge, but this apostle keeps getting exposure, so hopefully the two meet up again.

For Sonia, I personally think she has more of an idea than most(except of course the apostles obviously), but she might be all for the 'Age of Darkness' Griffith has in store for everyone else, going by her "uniqueness" aaz and everyone else pointed out.

Speculation Nation / Re: The Millennium Harbinger
« on: October 25, 2008, 11:53:54 PM »
Lets put it this way.   Lets look at the logic of it.  Arguably, every major character in Berserk has evolved as far as their attitudes and outlooks on life are concerned.  Guts.  Farnese.  Serpico.  Schierke.  Griffith.  Even minor characters like the population of Enoch village have changed.  You're telling me that they changed, but a man who has lived for over a thousand years, done and seen more than probably anyone else in the world, and turned from a human into Skull Knight is more than likely the same he has always been?

Good and well made point. That too is an interesting case, but my main point was that going off what we KNOW of the creatures mentioned(The Godhand), the factuality of aspects in that story comes under serious question.

24
Speculation Nation / Re: The Millennium Harbinger
« on: October 25, 2008, 10:23:30 PM »
^What it has to do with his personality, was that if he was such an evil figure, why is there evidence of a contrary demonic power at work here? That's one of the aspects of the story that was never fully covered, why there's branded corpses at the bottom of the tower. Unless Gaiseric was an apostle or some higher level spiritual entity, that means some other person was there that triggered the appearance of the four 'angels', and maybe the oncoming of a new godhand. Gaiseric already had the world conquered, what purpose would sacrificing everyone to destroy his own kingdom serve?

25
Speculation Nation / Re: The Millennium Harbinger

^Then explain how the Godhand are angelic, and why there's branded corpses at the bottom of the Tower. Surely, the Godhand are divine, but their very nature completely contradicts the "punishing angel" image the story gives them.

Interesting mention about the zealots Walter, could they(if later included in the story) be the followers of the Wise Man imprisioned by Gaiseric, and whom would be sacrificed by said Wise Man to become Void?
