Speculation Nation / Their names
« on: December 29, 2001, 07:28:24 AM »
New year's coming. :)

I want to know about each character's name in detail.
A few month ago,I looked up "Pippin" in a dictionary which saying like this;

1) Any of several varieties of apple
2) The seed of a fleshy fruit; a pip
3) Informal: A person or thing that is admired

very interesting thing to me!
Is Pippin an English name?

and let me know whatever you know about their names.
but no more Guts!  ;D

bytheway) Why on earth everything draws my curiosity?
I do know I'm the one who makes too many threads but I can't help it.
I can't resist my endless, abundant, overflowing curiosity.
That's all.

Speculation Nation / if you are Griffith
« on: May 03, 2002, 04:54:49 AM »
so simple and complicated question. :P
If you are Griffith, what are you gonna do at the side of the lake?

1) just commits suicide
2) decides to start a new life with ruined body and Casca
3) sacrifices the Hawk
4) sacrifices himself (from Vermillion)
5) throws away beherit flowing over to him
6) thinks of finding the best doctor or medicine in the world , for example super Elf powder, that can cure his body

as for me, I'd take 3) yeah

I want your 'naked' opinion. just follow your inner-self.

and one more thing, don't criticise others' opinion here, please.

** I amended the option. If you have another option, just take it out.....

Speculation Nation / Can apostles return to human?
« on: June 15, 2002, 10:21:31 PM »
Apostles are those who were predestined to have Beherit with evil spirit.
However if an apostle regrets choosing evil power,
can he take his humanity back? I mean "can he return to human?"
Once one gives up evil power, I think, he can regain his oldself.
Besides, when an apostle can't be real evil thing, his power is weakened.
I'd take snail apostle's case. He couldn't sacrifice his own daughter, Theresia. Finally he failed to get another power and taken to hell.
what if he didn't die?
He refused to sacrifice Theresia. then Godhand takes his life away for the punishment? ::) or....
and I want to think about Griffith's downfall in relation to it.
I think reborn Griffith is a mixture of human and evil.
What if Griffith can't be real evil to Guts? I mean I want to know if it can weaken Griffith that he's not real evil, especially to Guts.
or should Griffith be real evil to reach his dream just because he was reborn by evil power?

Speculation Nation / hints as to what is to follow
« on: June 24, 2002, 02:20:11 AM »
I think many tragic scenes may be repeated in the future though it's absolutely not sure if  Miura will really do it.
I found some scenes can be said "foreshadowing upcoming events".

1) Young Guts unwillingly killed his actual father, Gambino. the only creature he loved back then.
----> Guts inevitably kills Casca, the only love and hope for him.
He kills and loses those he loves.

2) Young Farnese burned her favorite bunny-doll.
----> Farnese causes Serpico to get burned to death. Notice Serpico is afraid of fire as hell.

3) Griffith sacrificed the Hawk members who worshiped him like god for his own desire.
-----> All members of Guts band are finally killed for Guts' own revenge on Griffith. Isidor is like the boy who died in Griffith's arms at the battle.

However, I don't think the above has much possibilities.
anything else can be found in berserk?

Speculation Nation / color of their love
« on: March 23, 2002, 03:48:03 PM »
what do you think of Farnese and Serpico's love?
I think Farnese to Guts is what Casca is to Griffith.(a)
and Farnese to Serpico is what Casca is to Guts.(b)

(a) type love is much closer to worship; it's like the love for god in many ways or teenage girls' for movie star.  :-X
this love includes loyalty, obedience and devotion as well.
(b)is like we call love between a man and a woman.
it includes attachment, possession, selfish desire and even hatred.
but we all know what a complex feeling love is.
I make love into two group but it is just depend on main feeling.

Farnese's love is much like Casca's.
We all know Casca hated Guts so much first. but I don't think that feeling is not love. it means Casca might love Guts from the first time; she was awfully concerned about every action Guts made. it is also from strong jealousy but could be the another form of love.
She didn't only know and wouldn't admit it because of her love for Griffith. but later, when Guts left her, she realized it.
At this point, Farnese may not realize yet she loves Serpico so much in another way. but if Serpico tries to leave her or die for her(No, No way!!!! I don't want! never), she may be able to realize it.
However those four's love is very tragic.
Guts and Casca's love we do know  too much and Serpico and Farnese's love may end in very tragic way. they are half brother and sister which means "their love can't be allowed"
this is just my thought.

Speculation Nation / Griffith and Hawk members used each other?
« on: August 03, 2002, 09:10:06 PM »
To begin with, I'd make one thing clear that I don't defend Griffith and I also think he should get paid for his betrayal.
What I want to talk about is that we should deliberate "the way of being paid for the betrayal",in other words, the way Guts takes revenge on Griffith and "relationship between Griffith and Hawk members" MUCH FURTHER AND NOT SHORTSIGHTEDLY.
The former part has been dealt with too enough so I'd talk about the latter.

Hawk members always wanted to realize their dreams via Griffith. Griffith was the only one who could make it happen.
They would worship and respect Griffith forever as long as he stands in the state much higher than them at everything.
They could have some kind of ambitions which they even hadn't thought about before met Griffith.
Then what would you think they did to ruined Griffith?
Do you remember when Wild showed his almost dead body to all the Hawk members? They were totally disappointed and judging from their reaction, many of them would leave Griffith if there was no eclipse just like some Hawk members had already left him when he was in the dungeon. It means they also might betray Griffith when they could get nothing from him any more.
If they had left Griffith at his worst in his life, it could be the most cruel betrayal.
Therefore I'd say Griffith and hawk members were tools to the each other. They used each other.
So when either of them thinks I don't need the tools anymore, one can leave the other, which is what we call "betrayal"
But the problems are how far their betrayal can go and who betrays first.
Both depend on the law of causality, I think.

** sorry for bad English and in case this kind of topic already existed before.

Current Episodes / Episode 204

this is just a rough outline.

The Inoch(?) village:
A troll is eating some guy named Ted, who still  has a little conciousness though. Hanna, his wife stones the troll to save her husband. But it doesn't work for the troll at all and the troll attacks her(maybe tries raping her). Her brother plunges a stick into the troll. The troll runs away and rushes to the barn where a lot of trolls are gathering.
The sound of bell tells the villagers are holding a funeral for Ted  and Hanna's brother. Then Morgan appears with Guts band. The villagers tells Morgan the trolls took Hanna and killed her brother. Morgan introduces Guts band to the chief and the villagers are surprised to see there are a boy and an elf.
but there is no witch who is so important to them.
Seeing Casca and Farnese, they suspect either of them is a witch. when Morgan introduces Schierke hiding herself behind Guts' back, she hesitantly appears to the villagers.
The witch they have been waiting for so much is a mere child!
The villagers disappointed sarcastically say to Morgan "are you joking now?" Then a priest of that village enters. He says " we can't cope with this situation even if we depend on ridiculous superstition like witch's magic. we'd better keep calm for ourselves" and says to Guts "please, just leave. this is a trial god gives us. Only the prayer is the best way we can do now"
Farnese tries to talk with the priest but Serpico stops her because  they may be chased by soldiers because of the happening in Albion. At that moment, there comes a noisy sound, which is being made by Casca pounding the coffins.
Stopping Casca, Guts asks the priest if he can give Guts band a night's lodgings. Of course, the priest turns it down first but  he unwillingly has to change his mind finding Casca in monk's robe.

just a rough summary. No trolls and fight in this chapter.

<ambitions and memories>

Schierke gives all the members her hair for telepathy. And she talks about some spiritual communication.
It makes her lead Guts Band for the fight with trolls, which makes Isidro dissatisfied and get out of their lodgings to practice his sword.
But his practice doesn't go well when Morgan appears.
Isidro asks him why he didn't get out of this village. Morgan tells Isidro his story when young. It's about his mother and a witch.Hearing him, Isidro says to Morgan "your poor story ruins my ambition" and leaves the place.
Meanwhile, Schierke is walking around the temple and the kids stone her because they hate witches so much due to the priest but they run away on seeing Guts.
and they have a talk....

Speculation Nation / Why did Femto let Guts survive?
« on: October 31, 2001, 02:53:20 AM »
in Eclipse two members survied as you all know.
i've been wondering why Femto let Guts survive?
Guts is Griffith's(or Femto) most important sacrifice.
Femto could have killed Guts very easily in the eclipse but he didn't. there was just one clue that Skullknight said " so much for this time. they may not be destined to die yet"
i mean Skullknight didn't save Guts' life but Femto did!!
Femto'd just left Scars(Guts' right eye , left arm  and insane Casca) to Guts. and in vol. 2 Femto said to Guts "you're still wandering" when snail-count called God hand.
Femto still has human-mind for Guts? So Femto may want his Friend to go up on his level? Or is there anything still left to be done by Guts for Griffith in his life?
???

Berserk Miscellaneous / underwear in Middle Age
« on: November 03, 2001, 07:11:05 AM »
Hi,  this is one of my ridiculous questions about berserk.
We've seen too many strip-off scenes in the manga,
Whenever I meet the hundreds of nudities, something odd hits on me.
There is always no Underwear, Why?
They say the history of underwear has been quite long.
So, people's underwear must have existed even in Middle Ages.
Then Miura didn't draw it for the sake of YA's much more issues?
Or any reason to do it?
I'd like to know the reason entirely and I am to keep a promise to tell my friend IT! 8)

Berserk Miscellaneous / Cannibalism
« on: December 25, 2001, 09:13:51 PM »
I think Cannibalism is one of important factors to lead us to devilish rite in the manga.
Once one gets possessed, he or she(yet never shown) always shows that cannibalism in berserk. Even Guts tried to eat Casca in the recent chapter.
what's that meaning for?
In ancient China, "eating" some parts of enemy's body was taken as a way to complete his or her revenge as far as I know.
but I don't know exactly what Cannibalism means in the West.
Is it an extreme madness or a way to be like evil one?
If there is anything of the cannibalism to be related to bersek,
let me know.

               Casca-sigh

               Puck-hilarious

               Serpico-cynical

               Farnese-agony

               Skullknight-mysterious

               Slan-melon ^_^

               Void-scientist

               Femto-brutal

               Pippin-Guard

              Judeau-breeze

Berserk Miscellaneous / Forgiveness
« on: January 20, 2002, 04:56:05 AM »
Lately a strange movie is getting people's attention here in Korea.
this movie is about really bad guy who mercilessly and entirely ruins an innocent girl's life just because he loves her.
Her life is literally fucked up.
At the end of the movie, it implies the girl opens her mind  and forgive him.
This movie makes me think of 'forgiveness'
Of course, it is clear Guts can't forgive Griffith. Never!
but I'd think it is possible a little bit if Casca were not insane, she might choose to forgive Griffth not because once she loved him, but because she hates a revenge on him.
I guess Guts may forgive Griffith as well at the end.
and if Griffith were reversely in Guts' position, he would be the same thing, I think.

If somebody does really bad things to you in your real life, how'd you react?
Which one do you think is right, revenge or forgiveness ?
this thought has always taken up my mind for a long time.
I want your opinion relating to Guts and Griffith.

Berserk Miscellaneous / one phrase to them
« on: January 27, 2002, 05:23:20 AM »
what if we had such friends as berserk characters?
Then what would you say to them as a friend?

to Guts ; hope you'll get a good sleep at night

to Griffith; Where the hell is end of your dream?

to Skullknight : hey, oldman, tell me something clearly.

to Farnese: you and I have the same hairstyle now

to Serpico: you always make me  :-[ :-[ :-[

to Void : seriously I like your brain

to Slan : Wow~ cool! you're perfect!

to Casca: hey, wake up!

to Puck : you are very warm-hearted elf
I like when you look at Guts with sympathy.

to Isidor : Gogogo! vigorous boy!

to Zodd : you know, you are so sexy and attractive *__*
to Luca : what about getting more decent job?

Berserk Miscellaneous / to Miura
« on: July 24, 2002, 02:17:27 AM »
All mangas in YA have the message like this
it means "send your appreciation of this manga"
Everytime I read this message, I feel like sending mine to Miura(Hakusensha)
what about you? what would you like to write to Miura?

As for me:
Dear Miura

First, I want to tell you your berserk change my life.
I was only deep into mystery mangas, novels and movies. Fantasy action mangas? Anime?
I didn't feel any interest in both.
But since last August, I've got crazy about them just because of you. :)
I think it is important that one who neither knows about them nor belongs to majority of age group of your fans loves your great work so much.
I start to study Japanese which I learned 10 years ago.
The characters and plot you've made are the best ever met.

And thank you for everything.
Keep good work!

Berserk Miscellaneous / Differences between two Berserks
« on: July 24, 2002, 04:30:54 AM »
If you go here

http://23ku.net/~hideo-k/ber/no.htm

there is a corner "berserk that you don't know" which tells us what miura has amended when the volumes of berserk come out. Some parts of words or chapters arranged are a bit different between YA and separate volume berserks . For example, Griffith's words at the lake in the eclipse are amended  like this:

Berserk in YA: If you come to me now, I'll never forgive you
Berserk in bookform : If you come to me....

In addition, order of chapters in vol.22 and lost chapter 83 show us how much Miura took pains on berserk.

anything else you guys know?
