We're certain it's not "u-ra" or even "ma-tsu"?

I'm not gonna argue with the professionals here, I'm just trying to get a flavour for how we define meaning without furigana.

The pronunciation depends on its meaning. We can't be sure of that until its furigana is given.

On a side note, I found an interesting story (myth) that uses the same word. Of course, we can't say that it's related to Berserk. I just want to give you guys a source where the word 末神 is used.

There was a 1000 year war between gods before the world was created. It's very complicated.
According to the myth, God decided to create 8 other gods to endow them to rule the world. The gods were placed in a loop of fate. When the first god and the last god (末神) met, the loop was complete. But a creature of darkness who was created by God provoked the last god who was overconfident about himself. God defeated him and sealed his soul and body with some kind of sign. And the dark one got to live as a servant of the one who summons his soul with the sign.

"Carefully lubricate the two prime fingers of your right hand and insert them into Claire Niveau's vagina.  Instead of feeling one cervical head, you will feel three.  Basically, this means that you have been fucking a mutant!"

Dead Ringers.

Why? Would God choose an obscene child to be His instrument?

Thinking about Guts' scars again, isn't it strange that while his whole body is scarred from burns, his hair remains intact? Maybe it's a good sign that his wounds aren't that serious... :badbone:

" I, the wrath of God, will marry my own daughter and with her I'll found the purest dynasty the earth has
  ever seen. "

That line is spoken in "Aguirre: The Wrath of God".

"What have you been doing all these years?"
"I've been going to bed early."

She's really gone a long way since those days

Hmm, I really wonder if she has completely forgotten that she rode on Guts and all that. :???:

It seems that Guts will continue to think to himself in the next episode (YA's previews are often off though :puck:). I imagine that all the members will get to clearly know his relationship with Casca. Then Farnese will realise Guts has no room for her and give up her useless feelings toward him. I hope Farnese and Roderick become real lovers (yeah, it's because I like Roderick). I really hope he'll be able to win her love!! :SK:

"She's the one I protect"

Actually, I thought of the exact same thing at first and it was my favorite choice. But then I removed it and chose "she's my girl" instead because I deciced to stick to "she's my..." as a base. :void:
In the end I guess it's not necessary to restrict ourselves to it since it's not that easy to create a proper line or to avoid sounding unnatural in English, so I'm going for "she's the one I protect" as well.

I read some discussion about the possibility of Guts eventually losing his eyesight. It would really be dramatically sad if it happened while Casca reversely regained herself at last. Then she'd have to take care of him. Of course I hope it won't happen, but the kind of dramatic possibilities that are left open amaze me.

By the way, I love Roderick with his hair untied. He's sexy!! :guts:
And I do hope Miura won't leave Guts with tons of scars forever. :miura:

When Roderick asked Guts what Casca meant to him on page 6 of episode 287, he couldn't (didn't maybe) complete his line: "she's my..."

I really wonder what he wanted to say. So I myself tried to complete his line. I thought of:

"She's the one I should protect".
"She's my girl."
"She's my captain."
"She's my old friend."

My final choice goes to "She's the one I should protect". I personally don't think Guts would directly say "she's my lover". It's neither his way nor the Japanese way, I think.

I also think maybe Guts himself didn't know what to say.

What's your opinion on that? And try to complete his line yourself here.

Yeah I also noticed that, actually it's one of the first things I saw when I read the episode.

While you guys noticed such a thing, I was amazed by Ivalera's strength when I saw her easily slam the door with her tiny leg. :guts:

Anyway, I like Puck's expression in his Yoda form when Azan looks at him with narrowed eyes and the way Azan's toes are wide and spreaded apart. :void:

(am a huge chocolate fan).  :guts:
Us too. :void: We need another box to stack all the chocolate.

Sniff, seeing all that stuff made me homesick for you guys' house in Lardy...  :judo:  I need to make a trip back over there sometime, or vice versa =).
Us too. But I hope we have a bigger house when you come back.

Looks like Aaz has more snacks to eat these days. I remember when I went to the market and bought a few chocolate things his eyes went WIDE with ENVY :ganishka:
Yeah, I tried to restrict chocolate to him at that time but I've given up since. I'm the one who supply him with huge amount of chocolate and who eats it much everyday. =)

Here are the photos of our fridge and food in general.

This is a box where I put snacks. The biscuits in the right corner are called "Croquants Miel SÚsame", they're sesame sticks which I am recently in and the blue packages on the left are Korean dried seaweed. You can also see two red packs of rice, chips, cookies and cereals.

I'm pretty bad at arranging stuff. There are condiments, noodles, pasta, chocolates, Bretzels, etc in the cupboard.

These are condiments.

This is a good assortment of food. =) You can see soy milk, Kinder chocolates AGAIN, French pickles (cornichons), Korean salted shrimps, etc.

This is our freezer, the upper part of the fridge. Yeah, we are frozen food buffs. The freezer is always too small for us so we always have to compact it crazily. You can see small shrimps again yeah, I love shrimps. But this shows just a tenth of the content.

Cute couple. Looks like Puella's predicton from the 284 thread may come true.  :serpico:
I don't think my predictions have ever been right. :judo:

By the way, what do you think is the reason there are no other main apostles next to Griffith except Locus? Because they would all horrify and scare people? :zodd:

Haha, this is pretty interesting. Hey you guys need MORE fresh food!! Cut down the amount of soda and fill your fridge with vegetables. Actually, I wanted to take a picture of mine but for now it's totally empty. In a few days I'll show you a really good assortment of food. :guts:

Oh yeah, and cheese sticks on the bottom shelf, a new pleasure of mine.

Oh, you get to tolerate cheese now? You didn't like dairy food before, did you?

I wonder what material was used to make that statue. The sculptor posted the work in progress on a well-known Korean online community but I missed it at the time and now it's gone.

What kind of paper is the magazine? By "worse" are you referring to paper quality or print quality?  How do they relate to the current volumes?

I think these questions will determine if I buy these.  I guess they'll be answered soon enough.

I'll answer you in detail after buying them. Please, just wait a little more. :guts:

Anyway, here's my imaginative scene for the next episode.

Noble 01: Your fiancÚ? When were you engaged? Who approved this engagement?
Charlotte: Ah, well...

Voice: It's me.

The pontiff shows up.

Pontiff: I approved their engagement.

No way as far as Midland's armies are concerned, remember their talk at the ball. They're all about the royal family, and right now that's Charlotte. The Pontiff will play a bigger role in regard to the rest of the Holy See Alliance for sure, but this episode is specifically about Midland's armies it seems, so...

In any case, no doubt the old man will show up very soon.

Maybe the both?

I've heard of disorders where you never feel you're full, and thus keep eating.  But that food has to come from somewhere and I doubt a 7 year old has funds to produce more food to eat.  I'd go as far to say what the parents are doing (in providing an endless stream of food) is child abuse.

Yeah, I thought the same way. So I want to ask you if you know about her parents. They give her as much food as she wants or they try not to do it or what? Sorry for bothering you but I can't put up with such a thing.

Stop.... EATING!!

I stopped watching it yesterday because I found the litte girl really poor. I wondered if she would survive until she became an adult. Today, I watched it to the end. Oh, God. Isn't it a disease? Even if you eat half the food in your fridge everyday, you won't be that fat. Or you will vomit or have a stomachache before you finish it, maybe?

Character Cove / Griffith or Ganishka, which one are you rooting for?
« on: February 23, 2007, 06:53:56 PM »
The final battle of Ganishka vs Griffith is supposed to take place in Wyndham. We all know that Ganishka will be defeated by Griffith eventually. But Ganishka is too good as a character to disappear too soon or miserably. Yeah, he's very popular in Japan, Korea and on this board too of course. Japanese Berserk fans call Griffith and Ganishka "Guri and Gani" (such typically Japanese abbreviations :puck:) and want to see their last battle come to a close call at least. And me too.

I want to ask you guys straightforwardly. Regardless of the fact that Griffith will probably win the battle, which one do you really support in your mind? I definitely go for Ganishka.

Character Cove / Re: Who is the worst father in Berserk?
« on: February 18, 2007, 08:16:23 AM »
I'm going with Gambino.  Of all those people, he's the only one who didn't consider himself a father.  That rejection (his role as a father) has had more repercussions in the manga's story and thus outwieghs the others (to me).

Strictly speaking, Gambino had no duty to raise Guts. He was not the one who picked the newborn baby and he just let his girl do whatever she wanted. Of course, I'm not justifying his harshness to Guts but at least I want to say it's true Guts was a burden left to him.

The only one of the four I can make a excuse for is Farnese's father who, though a absolute ass in most respects, did try to defend his daughter.

When did he try to defend Farnese? I don't remember reading that. Could you tell me more about it?

But in Berserk, there aren't many good fathers. I even wonder who can be considered a "good" father in the manga. Godot? Yeah, he's the only one, maybe? (I'm including foster-fathers).

Yesterday, I thought about Berserk all day, yeah, sometimes it happens to me. :badbone:
Suddenly, I found a real good father (he's not even a foster-father) in Berserk. Why didn't I think of him? Guess who?

Character Cove / Who is the worst father in Berserk?
« on: February 16, 2007, 05:56:33 PM »
We've seen several "bad" fathers in Berserk. Miura made a short comment about his father in an interview. He seemed to respect his father a lot to me. But in Berserk, there aren't many good fathers. I even wonder who can be considered a "good" father in the manga. Godot? Yeah, he's the only one, maybe? (I'm including foster-fathers). So I wanted to make a poll about that. The candidates are:

1. Federico Vandimion:
He's a bad father to both Farnese and Serpico. He's as cold as an ice with his children. Thinking about his reaction to Farnese, when she came to him to ask for a boat, it gives me a chill. *shudders*

2. Zepec:
Jill's father. He's a typical loser who beats his daughter and wife. The most horrible thing though is that he even doesn't notice/care that Jill is in danger of being raped by his scoundrel-friends. But he did shoot the Black Swordman, Guts!! And I should admit I could sympathise with him when he complained about his life. Anyway, he's a bad father to Jill.

3. Midland King:
I'm voting for him. He's a damn king but I think the princess, Charlotte has the worst father. He's had this dirty desire for his own daughter all these years. Even if he did great things for the people of Midland, he's a horrible father.

4. Gambino:
He's Guts' adoptive father. Though he wasn't a good father to the young Guts, the important thing is that Guts wanted to follow him and love him. And Gambino was the one who taught Guts how to use a sword and trained him. I personally think he could have been a good father if Sis hadn't died. But he let Donovan rape Guts  and that hurt the poor kid so deeply. Ugh, why did you do that, Gambino?

Let's vote!
