Shootin' the Breeze / Re: I derived my won formula
« on: March 16, 2005, 01:44:46 AM »
Wow, that's some interesting calculations! I'm not sure I understand all of it but did you take into account the star's spectral class? For instance: Polaris an F7 I and is 132 parsecs away. if a star such as Tau Ceti, a G class star was the same distance away, you probably wouldn't see it at all. That would be an important factor in calculating distance.

If you're interested, I've created a calculator that plots locations of stars in X Y Z coordinates. You need to enter the star's Right Asention, Declanation and distance. The calculator will give you the stars location in three dimensions from our solar system. The calculator was made using flash 5. I could forward it to you if you want.

A good book to pick up if you don't have it is Peterson's guide to stars and planets. If you're really ambitious, try the Sky Catalogue.

Hope that helps.

I really wonder what Guts would do to YOU
Ps: if you dont get it i am saying He would "kick the shit out of the maker of this topic"

Also DMC4 is in the pre planning stage.
Damn capcom, why cant they think ahead like Konami (because when Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, they announced Metal Gear Solid 4 will come out late 2006)
trickster? whats the point of it... i use the stinger to dash and attack at the same time... and running on walls, while neat, is totally usless when every bad guy in the game can just teleport to your exact location regardless and attack from bad camera angles... please tell me if there is more to trickster than i realize...
Really all styles match up to diffent gamers.

Sure does!  ;D thanks DarkDragoon.

The game is great so far. The first two Levels play like stages (i mean not much free RE roaming) There are 7 fighting styles

Trickster: Trickster is the default style and basically the most well rounded  one of them all, considering you can already attack and shoot with good proficiency based on just the square and triangle buttons, setting the circle button up as a dodge button can be helpful.  This style gives you the ability to dodge attacks quickly as well as the ability to run up walls.

SWORDMASTER - For those who prefer the use of the blade there's the
Swordmaster style.  This style gives you an additional sword attack button,
the circle button.  You can spin your sword around and also slash in mid-air.

GUNSLINGER - My personal favourite, Gunslinger changes the circle button to an additional gunfire button giving virtually every gun a secondary fire mode and allowing you to shoot in multiple directions, charge up your Handguns, and do the Rain Storm attack where you spin upside down in mid-air.  Another thing you may not know is if you knock down an easy enemy, jump on his back to surf!

ROYALGUARD - This is the defensive style, I've rarely used it but it changes the circle button to a block button and gives you the ability to defend and counterattack.  Given enough experience it should prove to be quite useful.

QUICKSILVER - Unlocked after defeating Geryon, this style gives you the ability to use your Devil Trigger as a means to stop time and slash wildly at enemies who can do little but stay still as they are chopped into pieces.

DOPPELGANGER - The final style is unlocked not surprisingly after defeating the Doppelganger.  With this you can go into Devil Trigger and use R1 + Circle to spawn an image of yourself to help fight.  This image can actually be controlled by a second controller, plug it in and try it out yourself.
There are 10 weapons in the game
Devil Arms: Rebellion Cerberus Agni & Rudra Nevan Beowulf
Guns: Ebony & Ivory Shotgun Artemis Spiral Kalina Ann

Dante fights his brother Vergil who was Nelo Angelo in Devil may cry 1, and in DMC 1 he had his spikey hair.
Well what do you guys think of the game??

1. Infected- This is a FPS where you are a man or woman cop in a city on X-mas day, when a virus infects the entire city. The virus infects you but instead of becoming a zombie, you blood becomes an anti-virus to which you can use it as ammo in a blood gun to kill the zombies. Gameplay will involve on setting up multiple combos in which you infect any zombie that is glowing green and shoot it, which will cause that zombie and any other zombie glowing green in the vicinity to explode as well. Also when playing multiplayer, if you kill a person, thier avatar will turnn into a copy of you, and the only way you can look like your normal self is to get rrid of it in the single palyer game. So your character colud spread all over the US if it wanted too!

2. Lumines - Now come on guys. A puzzle game from the creators of Rez? What's not to like? This puzzle game is also innovative. It is a game like Tetris where you take square pieces and match them up to thier own color. Simple right? Not really. See the blocks stay there until a vertical line "sweeps" the blocks off of the screen. And to make things even better, the line is synchronized with the music that is being played in the BG making your strategy change with song to song. Great visuals and addictive gameplay will sell this game.

3. Mercury- This game is slightly strange. Think of Super Monkey Ball meets the liquid metal mercury. That's Mercury the game. However, this game feature ingenious level design, and other features such as having to combine your mercury with another color of mercury to open a door. Or having to fight bosses at the end of each level. Great Graphics also add to the gameplay.

4. Metal Gear Acid - Since everyone already knows about this one I'll skip the details to just say its MGS with a card based strategy to it. That makes it innovative alread.
Fullmetal Alchemist:
Bandai is bringing the Fullmetal Alchemist series to the DS. The game is based on Square Enix's manga and anime series.
Launched in 2003, Square Enix's manga and anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist, has already been turned into titles for the PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Advance. DS owners don't fret--it appears that the series is coming to Nintendo's new portable this summer.
According to reports from early purchasers of Square Enix's monthly Shonen Gangan magazine, a new Fullmetal Alchemist action game will be coming to the dual-screen handheld this summer. Details on the new title are unknown, but as was the case with the past two releases on the GBA, the game will be created under license by Bandai.
In the Full Metal Alchemist universe, a select group of powerful people, known as Alchemists, have the ability to manipulate objects and transform them into new items
Baten Kaitos DS
Nothing on it.

Xenosaga DS
Nothing on it.

Shin Megami Tensei Ds
TOKYO--Japan-based Atlus announced today that it is currently planning five games for the Nintendo DS, including the tentatively titled Shin Megami Tensei DS, which will join the recently announced Shin Megami Tensei Online as upcoming games in the company's Megami Tensei series of role-playing games. Though Nintendo has set the release for the DS by the end of the year, Atlus did not indicate when these games would become available.

There, that will keep people from thinking you meant the whole thread.  :)
 - C
Lol, its funny because i meant the WHOLE topic, but that gives me an excuse not to post my hands off about this topic.
who did griffith really once loved??  Griffith's only goal was to gain power. He was a just man who gained many followers, but the first signs of his evil appear as he is tourtured and imprisoned for a year for the crime of makeing love to the princess of the kingdom he served. As his grip on reality began to loosen, he blamed it all on Guts, his most trusted man and in many ways best friend. Because Guts decided to leave the Hawks, Griffith blamed him for his own predicament. Even after being rescued by Guts and some of the Hawks, he grows jealous of the relationship between Guts and Casca, a female member of the Hawks who had previously been obsessed with Griffith. His ambition having been destroyed, he was visited by the four angels; the godhand. These servants of god promised to give him ultimate power and his dream of ruleing, but there had to be a sacrifice. Griffith sacrificed his men, the Hawks, the people who loved and admired him, without a second thought. As they were brutally massacred by the servents of the godhand, Griffith died and Femto, the final member of the godhand was born. The only people left alive at that point were Guts and Casca, so in order to spite the man who he blamed for his misfortune, he raped Casca and forced Guts to watch. Even Charlotte Her self Was A tool. He was using her to become king.
there so Grifith cant love anyone, but i think that makes the story really dull. maybe  Kentarou Miura should Rethink this  :-\

I dunno, many RPG players would put story as #1, because RPGs are superb in stories
Yes but, all games. The getaway had a great story, but the gameplay sucked. so story might be #2.
when referring to Dynasty Warriors, that game is based on two 60 episode novels, based on years upon years of history, it has plot, people just avoid it because the games so fun.
Dynasty Warriors had a story  :o
As you can see i made a poll. Vote Ds, if you want/have a Ds. Same with PSP. If you wanna be "twice the loser" vote for both. None, if your not going to buy anything, and gamegear if your an old skool gamer

As one game reviewer once said "If you want deep mature plot, action, blood and gore, and good titles go sony.  If you want something with relatively no plot but really adictive gameplay go nintendo.".
Dude, "deep mature plot, action, blood and gore," are 10% of a good game, adictive gameplay is 90% of a good game. so gameplay makes the game, "deep mature plot, action, blood and gore" come 2nd
List of  things thjat make a good game:
1.adictive gameplay
4.real challenges
5.blood and gore

Smart haven't played dreamcast it seems, dreamcast had graphics that were only a tiny bit worse than ps2's. also, psx had worse graphics than n64, so you're giving a wide range for these graphics here. Also, about graphics, no one cares, proof that no one cares, is the existance of cel shaded games. Also my favorite NHL game is NHLPA 93, and those graphics were below par.

(he knows) well i argee. Did the SNES have good graphics? No. What is awsome? YES. Does the DS have good graphics? Yes. Will it be awsome? Yes. Has Nintendo had a excelent track record with handhelds? Yes.
;D read the hole topic

It's a good thing you didn't post that, because apart from the fact that it looks like you just copied/pasted it from another forum like your previous posts, it's plain stupid. Raw graphic power doesn't make a game, only simpletons and teenagers would think that..

Right you are Ouji. (mind if i call you Ouji) but i few mintunes ago i was going to post "Considering the DS compared to the PSP, the PSP is more powerful statistically. If you don't believe me, compare any stat sheet from the PSP to the DS. That's fact. What isn't fact, is people's opinion that the DS is better than the PSP. What I say about the PSP is indeed fact. However, both of you are only relying on sales to tell you that the DS has sold more than the PSP, despite the fact that 1) the DS relased last year compared to PSP's relase next month, and 2) I hope you realize that there hasn't been one innovative game for the DS so far. And don't use that crappy Warioware port as an excuse. Half of those games are just cheap "rub your stylus as fast as you can" games anyway.

Read any reviews of the PSP in Gamepro, Official Playstation Magazine, Playstation Magazine, Game Informer, Electronic Gaming Monthly and the first thing they mention about the PSP is: "the one big screen with problems"  screen automatically project the greatest graphics ever to be seen on a handheld. What would you rather pick: a crappy 2 screen system in which one screen is used to touch and the other displays crappy 64-bit graphics, or a powerhouse screen that shows graphics that rival the Dreamcast? You two are obviously going to say something about that so go ahead.
Andcompare the "size" of a laptop and a PSP. The name says it all: laptop. It fits in your lap and the lightest ones run about 1-3 pounds. Can you fit a laptop in your pocket. No. Can you fit a laptop comfortably in your hands? No.

Can you fit a PSP into your back pocket? Yes. Does it fit comfortably in your hands? Yes. Does it have everything a laptop has and more? Does a PSP way ounces instead of pounds? Yes to both of those questions. Do you have to use a crappy handheld that stole its idea from a Palm Pilot? No, you don't. And don't let me get started. You know your bullshit handheld stole the whole fucking idea of using a stylus from Palm Pilot. I'm suprised Pilot, Inc. didn't sue Nintendo. Legal issues aside, I went to a local EB Games store to find out from a local representative about the PSP. He told me that the pre-orders for the PSP had surpassed the initial number of PSP being produced(this estimate is for the state of Virginia only) and had surpassed the orders of the DS(also in Virginia). I asked him," If I preorder my PSP now, when can I expect to get it?" To which he replied, "I'm sorry to say this, but probably not until April and May." Seems the anticipation for PSP is ganing steam boys. Catch you all, March 24 in Times Square. I'll probably be standing in line getting my PSP.
Also, did you know that Sony is releasing Advent Children on the PSP as a UMD as well? I thought you would like to know since you have Cloud in your Avatar." Then i looked at what i posted (if i didnt i am sorry)
internet browser that can be downloaded from Sony to acess the internet with your PSP,
-A built-in Microphone to translate English to any other language you see fit
- MP3 and MPEG 3 and 4 playback to be able to play both MP3s and Movies on your PSP.
- A program called Image Converter 2 to be able to save images from any other Sony brand Digital camera or video recorder to your PSP.
- What's this about online play? Yes, the PSP will feature Wi-Fi play with the push of a button to play with up to 16 other players depending on the game.
so then i thought,

Do I want a mp3 player?

Do I want a DVD player?

Do I want a Sony cammera?

I want a fucking game station. I want it to be portable, too.
From what you're building up, it's a magical electronical device
but Gimmie an exact figure. With the mprs, with the movies, with the cammera, with every add-on, how much is this gonna cost? Hundreds.

I don't want a cammera, a dvd player or an mp3 player - But i'm gonna have to pay for it.
But i lloked at both the Ds and psp and said " where the hell is my 2-d side srcolling action games, or just 2-d games. I am going to miss'em. Wait, the Ds can play GBA games, AND has "Gyakuten Saiban, Naruto: Saikyou Ninja Daikesshuu 3, and Castlevania DS.
It's funny, usually people say things like "Ha! it's for 10 years old kids!", but I guess it doesn't work here.
>:( i am 11.
That you're being stupid about this; you shouldn't even care. Just because one is good doesn't mean the other "totally SUX and is OWNED", it's not that simple and why should it be? That kind of video game zeal just isn't cool.
Look at people like "Headless Death" first post, this topic is more of an info theard.

Oh come now, Vic Viper/QAHY was complaining because two other people learned about Inuyasha. Seriously, how does more people getting interested in something make it less enjoyable for you? What changes besides the number of fans? It's not like licenses and localization put that big a dent in the fansubbing groups.

And to say that Naruto is nothing like DBZ is stretching the truth a bit. They both have a basic shonen template of good-hearted, kinda dumb hero training to get stronger to face stronger and stronger enemies. And IIRC didn't Kishimoto claimed that Dragonball was a major inspiration?

Which isn't to say that they're cookie-cutter copies, but there are definate similarities.

And CN seems to feel shonen fits best in their toonami block. Why would they give up the lucrative kids market for a hit like Naruto? Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see Naruto toys in a kids meal or something similar in a year or so.

Anyone remember when anime was like that whisper of a word? about 95% of the world didnt even know what the hell it was... ahhh I long for the good ol days  :'(
Yeah, I liked it better when the Berserk "American/European" community was just 50 people... (It means without you)]

No DS vs PSP is better. Anyway i am changeing my mind alot about Psp. At first when i seen the battery life i said "You can't even get throiugh the first level of any game with that life. That's bullshit." Then when i seen the rest of the Psp i said "Sleep mode? Are you fucking kidding me? What can you do in sleep mode? NOTHING, that's what. Fuck psp. Ds rules" then I am saying "but not only does the sound and the seemingly humungous screen blow the DS away, but let's face it... the games totally own it. And let me ask you... where are you really going to be in your life that you need to have the psp for more than 4 hours straight?" Then I said "Psp ay have all those good stuff etc but its gonna cost you alot and ds its fun becuase today i was playing metriod with couple people and it ran well. Not to mention you can play other people using 1 cartidge and even a chatroom. Mp3 etc you dont have to worry about nintendo is going to release a player for Ds,so you can watch tv movies etc. Also, they are going to test online play soon on the DS which will make games like Jump SuperStars(with naruto, samuraiX,Goku etc-jump comic book) online playable with 16 players nuff said. For the time being the games are a bit childish but they are just a test of whats to come. The psp has alot of good things but with those memory sticks they cost 80 bux each dayum nuff said. You would be spending like over 600 bux on a handheld =/" But about the ds is "you realize you can't do that with graphics, bits only add up powers of two, but you can add two of them together ( such as RAM can be added up) it's basic programming knowledge
it goes as follows
atari - 4 bit
nintendo - 8 bit
super nintendo - 16 bit
psx, gameboy advance - 32 bit
n64 - 64 bit
ps2, gamecube, xbox, dreamcast, psp, ds - 128 bits
ds has two 64 bit screens, that two times the hardware which would make it two times 64, technically the specs are the same, since they are split for two screens, if the ds had one screen (MS perhapes  ) it would have the graphic capabilities as the psp. add in inputs and battery life it's kicks ds high ahead"
I keep on doing this, i am going insane!! so i made this topic to see the the people at think.

When exactly are you going to play a game for 17 hours? To the casual gamer, 2-4 hours is enough. You don't think that Sony hadn't heard the complaints from America and tried to correct some of the problems before shipping to America? And another thing, read every review about the PSP that has come out in an American gaming magazine. Not one magazine has complained about the square button or the UMD problem. The DS is not a highly advanced piece of equipment, and therefore does not have anything to worry about. The DS was built for fucking 5 year olds for God's sake. The internet browser is from Sony itself and will not need a monthly fee to subscribe. Only a PSP and Wi-Fi hotspot will do.PSP does exactly the same thing the DS does in terms of short-length Wi-Fi play. The only time the Wi-Fi hotspots are used, is during Long distance playing and maybe internet browsing(at a internet cafe for example)Also The medai playback that was discussed for the GBA is called the Play-yan. It is essentially a chip that is placed inside a special GBA cartridge that will enable it to play MP3s and MPEG 4 playback. However, the chip, cartridge, USB cable, and other things needed to get the files off of your computer into your GBa are sold seperately and add up to alot of money. Also Nintendo stated that they had no intentions of bringing it to America anytime soon. LOL
and as i said befor: It has been announced that Final Fantasy 3( 6 in Japan) will be coming out for the Nintendo DS. Now wait, I said a treat for the PSP users didn't I? Well since DS get FF 3 PSP users get Final Fantasy: Advent Children on UMD, and we also get the remake of FFVII when it comes out.
