Anime Asylum / Re: 2016 Berserk TV series: Episode 12
« on: September 17, 2016, 12:43:43 PM »
A disappointing finale from a disappointing anime adaption. What a crazy roller coaster this season put me through. With everything they did in season 1, I hope for season 2 they learned that there were some large issues in the direction and execution from this season. I'm not expecting much from the next season. If there is anything I'm looking forward to, is seeing the Qliphoth, the relationship growth between the characters in Guts' party, and Guts donning the Berserker armor. Keeping my fingers crossed for better animation and episode storyboards!

But for now...

From another standpoint I have a skull knight wallet that I bought from amazon which has been very good in terms of durability and my tattoo sleeve.  I would love a hat sometime but the selection I find for the most part is always unofficial and sub par to say the least.

Holy crap a Skull Knight Wallet??? I want one :carcus:

Nice! You have a berserk sleeve tattoo? What specifically do you have on it? I personally have the Guts brand on my neck, and have been considering starting more Berserk tattoos on my arms. The problem is finding a talented enough artist that can trace and shade Miura's art at a reasonable price $$$ :magni:

I have to say, these cut-scenes look unbelievable. As in beautiful :judo:. After witnessing Berserk 2016, my eyes are overwhelmed with joy.

I'm anticipating this game even more. February can't come any sooner.

"The Dragon Killer"

Hopefully we don't see it translated to "The Killer of Dragons" in the English release

You might also be interested in the podcasts we recorded around that time, where we reviewed each issue as they came out. It's Eps 38-44.

Thanks! I'll have to check them out

And yes it was nicer reading it all in one sitting. Easier to comprehend what was actually going on and flowed a lot smoother. The "nectar" thing still gets me though :isidro:

You can buy a used, good quality copy of Volume 1 on Amazon for ~$8.00 ($4.00 originally + 3-4 dollars extra for shipment). Can't go wrong with that :guts:

The Beast of Darkness is an allegory to begin with. It represents Guts' dark feelings (anger, guilt, fear, sorrow, etc.)

I understood for a while that it's all psychological and the Beast isn't anything physical. I've just heard so many people call the Beast of Darkness a wolf or hound I started to say it myself.

Thanks Aaz for the explanation & correction.

That never made any sense though. Guts doesn't howl like a wolf when he transforms. As a matter of fact, the Beast of Darkness isn't a wolf.
I guess they were just using the wolf sound as metaphor for Guts' wild nature when he goes berserk.

Is the correct term for the Beast of Darkness a hound rather than wolf? Or is it just defined as a wild beast.

My man cave is located in our apartment spare room. Not very impressive, but it's a nice room to go to in order to relax :badbone: My J-PS2 is hooked up now, with my other current consoles out of view. It has a built in shelving unit inside the walls, perfect for DVD storage and for my novels/mangas.

Nice. I like his movement and how it shows Guts hopping around at sonic speed. His special attack though I feel they tried to go over the top, but made it look pretty ridiculous. Can't really recall an instance where Guts abandoned his sword to take out his enemies by hand :???:

The beserker growls are also totally different to how I imagined it.

I believe they added more of an actual wolf howl in the J-PS2 game, which I really liked. This one though feels more right how they have his voice, combined with a dull ambient roar. I hear slight barking as well :beast:

They've really captured the feel of the character and it looks like it'll be excellent gameplay, and that's what counts.

Couldn't agree with you more

Anime Asylum / Re: 2016 Berserk TV series: Episode 11

Hey, at least it's indicative that they're probably fixing stuff for the Bluray release, as usually happens with anime nowadays. I don't know how much they can do since most of the problems are with shitty CGI and bad directing, but maybe they're recording new clanging sounds as we speak!

For 24,300 it better be the best clang I will ever hear in my lifetime  :ganishka:

On the bright side, it only took them 11 episodes to correct Casca's skin color in the opening

Wow! I didn't even notice that change. Why bother changing something they screwed up from the very beginning? What a pointless attempt at trying to put a band-aid on this anime so far in.

I felt this episode did a good enough job as a whole. Didn't really have that much choppy, amateur animation feel to it:

- Mozgus' appearance was less awkward than it would be. His fight with Guts was cool to watch fully animated.
- Zodd made his first appearance in the anime :zodd: Basically just an exact page shot from the manga.
- 'The pink jelly of screaming death' still ruins the whole horror/creepy factor I felt when reading it in the books.

This episode ended where I pretty much thought they would finish at. At this pace it makes me wonder how close to the end of volume 21 they will reach.

Character Cove / Re: In-depth Berserk Analysis (Part 1)
« on: September 09, 2016, 02:15:33 PM »
Wow, what a post. Since this was mostly all about Guts, what else are you trying to focus on in the future?

His being blind in one eye also serves as a symbolic blindness: perhaps there is something that he failed to see, an unconscious flaw in his character or choices, which continues to cause him pain.

I don't believe this is any sort of symbolism or something he 'failed' to see. It was really just Guts not being able to look away from the crazy situation he got thrown into. He cared too much for Casca, far too much to just simply look away and ignore her being raped by someone he equally cared for, in a way. It's not in Guts' nature to ignore such a horrific scene. He witnessed Griffith's betrayal and actions, and lived for it to be forever burned in his missing eye  :beast:

Interesting choice of outside references you brought up throughout this analysis. You seem to have put a lot of effort into this.

It's kind of an unimpressive overlay effect while the models are switched.

Yeah, I completely agree. But this is a Berserk musou game adaptation. We shouldn't expect everything to be 100% from the primary source. I'll be playing this game an unhealthy amount during the day/night either way. I'm just glad they're including many characters I thought they'd ignore. Apparently they claim to be having a 'huge' character roster, but are unwilling to reveal them all until the release date. I'm betting it will be 12 playable characters max (hopefully including Skull Knight. Why wouldn't they?)

I was expecting something more impressive than a poof of smoke as a transformation effect.

It's steam I believe, rather than smoke. It's how Zodd's transformation is supposed to look.

Berserk Miscellaneous / Re: Berserk Musou (PS3, PS4, PC)

Kinda sluggish for Zodd, but the big guys are usually made to be the slow ones in these games.  Sweet transformation, but the special is pretty lame.

Yeah, such a shame. Wish his movement was faster with more dexterity to his sword swings.

Zodd is one of my least favs so far... I thought that Schierke looks better... I think we might get around 4 or 5 more characters, still hoping for SK, Silat, Azan, Isidro and Locus, Grunbeld is confirmed to be NPC right?

I believe both Grunbeld and Silat are already confirmed as boss fights.

Whew, that was not great. Zodd isn't a sluggish fighter. When he and Guts were fighting on the Hill of Swords, Rickert remarked they were moving so fast that he couldn't track their movements -- it was just a whirlwind. This Zodd looks like he's been Zangief'd for some reason. And that special attack at the end, with the tornado making soldiers spin around, looked more like a game bug than an intentional effect.

Completely agree. He's a force to be reckoned with when it comes to both brute strength and decisive/quick swordsmanship.

Just bought the new Attack on Titan game for PS4. Holy crap this game is fun.

Repetitive, yes, but I just came here to fly around towns with the omnidirectional gear, slashing Titan's limbs off till the cows come home. They did a great job. :ubik:

It's not about internet points.

lol -4 karma? I thought this would be a cool community to talk about one of my favorite series with, not a bunch of touchy spergs. Peace out.

... Seems like it was. Anyhow, glad you're wanting to take a second chance. Just voice what you want to say as long as it's respectful :guts:

So if none are outdoing the eclipse (which is the most traumatizing event out of them all for Guts) then for me it's not too much.

Berserk torture rooms are always fun to read through. Volume 18, p. 171, a nice shot of a boob being pulled apart by the breast ripper, and then some poor individual who had the Pear of Anguish inserted inside them

:magni: No thank you!

I've got a couple vintage, official t-shirts. One was sold during the run of the 1997 TV series. It's black with the skull & beherit illustration in the center. Don't think I have a picture of it handy though.

Nice! I'd like to see them sometime. Do you wear them or are they purely collectibles?
