On a sidenote, this is farfetch'd but it wouldn't surprise me if some racist ass klan member(s) would attempt an assassination on Obama if he were to become president simply because if they're successful Biden would take his place.

I think its more likely then you think. However I don't see the attempts being sucessful. Klan members aren't known for the intelligence.

Well, I'd like to welcome the FBI to the thread, feel free join the discussion!

Anyway, McCain isn't trying to look more liberal per se, he's just trying to get women to vote for him simply by picking a woman (and add some "change" to his campaign), but a conservative pro-life, pro-gun, pro-drilling woman so as not to offend his base (otherwise, he might have picked someone like Kay Bailey Hutchison). It's kind of a transparent and reckless move though considering her lack of experience, which hurts that argument against Obama, and his age. Hard to judge it as a stupid move though, since it's a move targeting stupid people's votes. =)

Certainly, from a standpoint of picking one of the more qualified people to proceed him, it's totally bogus, but like I've said, it's just the VP.

This definitely does seem like a move to get disgruntled Clinton women's support. There's been a fair amount of talk of former Clinton supporter's going over to McCain rather than back Obama, this seems like a move largely just to get them. As for her lack of experience, I'd say that's very much McCain's aim, he's old and no doubt he'd fear that getting a well known and "strong" running mate might cause him problems later on if he had some health problems or couldn't run for a second term for similar reasons. I doubt he'd want his VP to have the kind of power that Bush left to his VP. So a disenchanted female vote grabber that won't be too troublesome in office, but could help him get it, or at least that's how it looks from here.

Yeah, though I don't know how concerned he was about a possible power struggle with others in choosing her, he's very close with Tom Ridge and Lieberman after all, and even if he wasn't, he's not the type to get pushed around either. Frankly, if what you say is true, it's kind of scary since part of the point should be that the person is capable of stepping in and taking command.

Who knows though, she may be the ruthless type? :carcus:

UPDATE:

BTW, they already changed the image of that banner I posted earlier:

In addition to the picture itself, also note the lighter contrast, deeper red on the suit, and overall brighter golden hue. Good move, she looks more dignified and matronly. Grandpa and grandma, coming to save the World! By contrast, she even almost looks a bit pornish in the previous version...

Speaking of which, this is her back in the day...

Yeah, I really didn't know how to point the assassination thing out without sounding like a fool/nutcase or as if I work for the Secret Service (though I still have a nagging feeling that says, "I know a racist bastard'll try something..."), and I meant to mention how McCain may use Palin as a ploy to secure the soccer mom vote, though I still think that its a little liberal to have a woman as VP simply because I still feel like the republican party has a little of that sexist machismo naturally built-in, which is odd because the soccer moms tend to vote republican.

I really have to agree with his plans for the do nothing house and senate.

Hey look i'm still not double posting.

After a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mike ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.

"It's over," said Noonan, who then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.

"The most qualified? No. I think they went for this — excuse me — political bullsh** about narratives," she said. "Every time Republicans do that ... because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."

Murphy chimed in:

"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."

Noonan's blunt call contrasted with her conflicted column today saying Palin "could become a transformative political presence."

"The Sarah Palin choice is really going to work, or really not going to work," Noonan wrote. "It's not going to be a little successful or a little not; it's not going to be a wash. She is either going to be magic or one of history's accidents. She is either going to be brilliant and groundbreaking, or will soon be the target of unattributed quotes by bitter staffers shifting blame in all the Making of the President 2008 books."

I hope the "Wes Anderson Dipshits" demo will come out in force. Unfortunately, the likely demographic to decide the election will simply be idiots.

Joad Cressbeckler?... .... is... that a joke? lol, that guy has more of a chance of recieving more electoral votes that McCain can receive if he were counting the years in vietnam (if that makes sense)

Saw on the news this yesterday that McCain changed symbol of campaign from experience to "change"

Poll: Palin candidate men most likely to sleep with

I think the most important position given the attitudes of the American electorate at the moment is who the American people think would make the best Shepherd.

Should we take that as genuine insight or biting sarcasm? =)

In any case, I suppose we'll find out on election day if we're looking for the good shepherd, or if we're just sheep.
