even the horses are cut in half!
My first thought when seeing the old God Hand was, "They can be killed." What awesome designs on those guys, though. Seriously.
I had the same thought.

P.S. Is she the model for the woman effigy on his horse?
Episodes like that really make it feel like we're getting closer and closer to the finale.
Could be, but I personally noticed the woman on the necklace she's wearing, she looks like a fairy or butterfly version of the woman SK has on his horse.
I think so, and the wings look like a reference to her elf amulet.

For me a very interesting part of this episode are those apostle looking creatures. They seem to spawn out of the tentacles depicted in the dimension, almost reminds me a little bit of the Sea God.
The old God Hand members... that reveal was truly insane. Miura did a great job of making these characters feel similar to their newer counterparts, without taking away from their individual designs. The one on the left with the beard looks especially unique to me. Not very Cenobite-y, is he?
Given the situation, and supposing that they were all indeed elevated to their new positions at the same time, I wonder if they knew each other?
Speaking of that lady in the flashback, her accessories seem to tie her to Danan - was she a witch? I wonder if she would have helped Gaiseric with his armor in a similar way to how Schierke helped Guts? And with her death, Gaiseric is obviously not able to take advantage of her skills, leading to his death and down the path to becoming the Skull Knight.

I wasn't sure what to make of those creatures when I first saw them, because while there is some variation in their design, they seem too uniform-looking to be apostles to me. They all seem very hairy. When depicting apostles in large groups, he always goes to great trouble to depict the variations in their designs. The fact that they're spilling out from between the tentacles suggests to me that they're beasts spilling out of some kind of rift being created by the ceremony.
So from the last few pages we can tell that Skull Knight died inside the Berserker armour shortly after the girl with the brand on her soulder died in his arm.
I wonder now how they managed to save his soul.
How can you be sure? Maybe they're just hiding. My first thought when seeing the old God Hand was, "They can be killed." What awesome designs on those guys, though. Seriously.
Considering that Skull Knight and Flora have already been drawn in parallel to Guts and Schierke, I kinda doubt it. She might very well have been a magic user too, but I think if anyone was around to assist the future Skull Knight with his accursed armor, it would have been Flora.Speaking of that lady in the flashback, her accessories seem to tie her to Danan - was she a witch? Now, a question : Do you think Miura drew on his draft book more about Gaiseric, and especially his face? And subsequently, do you think we will ever get to see it?
Hi everyone, new here!
Been a long time reader of this fantastic website (fore more than 15 years!) but only recently did I signed in.
Glad to enjoy this important episode with you!
To me it seemed at first like it was only Void's advent, like the Femto one we witnessed with our hero Guts. But now I start doubting reading what you said above.

Although it is weird that none of the old ones resemble humans like the newer ones do. I doubt there's any reason or significance to that, though.
Actually... Never say never. It may yet prove to be significant.
We at least now know who the 4 to 5 angels were at the Tower of Rebirth. It was the Godhand. going from 4 to 5 members.
Some thoughts from chat with Wally: Is this two memories, or moments? It looks like a sacrifice AND incarnation. Everything screams sacrifice, but the burning brand was a signature of the incarnation and would make sense with the destruction of his city. But again, I'm only extrapolating from what I've previously known, no reason it has to be exclusive though.
I do think they're two different moments, but I figure they're in close succession. From the way they're structured, it's not clear that anyone but him faces the proto-God Hand in the tentacle dimension. But then when he comes back, he finds her dying along with the rest of his capital city. Now with that being said, there's a motif between Saint Albion and the Tower of Rebirth that doesn't fully click yet.
Void imprisoned in Albion / Griffith imprisoned in the Tower of Rebirth
City "sacrificed" at the Tower of Rebirth (?) / Femto incarnated at Albion
There's a parallel going on that isn't coincidental. It's just not yet clear to me how things went down on Void's side, because I don't think he was incarnated. I think his "once-in-a-thousand-years" ceremony was something else, with another purpose. Presumably, the worlds were merged at the time and from what went down, it seems Void and his pals confronted their enemies straight on. They destroyed the city, destroyed the great king, and then set out to achieve some unknown objective.
My guess is that at that point, they faced off with the good guys and those two forces mutually annihilated themselves. Four of the bad guys were wiped out, but Void survived. To seal him away, the surviving magicians then set out to split the corporeal world from the astral world. And so Void has been patiently rebuilding a team for all these years, and preparing the way for another attempt. And it's what's going on now. The worlds are merged again, we saw the God Hand "coming in" during the Blast of the Astral World, and Griffith is paving the way for god knows what.
Another God Hand! A previous God Hand! This one's arguably freakier than the current one.
First off, the setting is brand new. Probably like the field of faces, so just an environment, but wow! It even subtliy forms a ceiling making it a hallway of individually unique tentacles. It's always been odd how the 'evil' associated with the God hand always produces unique creatures.
And lastly, the woman looks similar to Dannan and even has the head piece. Lots of Elven imagery on her jewelry. But she's branded. And apparently dead. So it doesn't make sense to be Dannan. Instead, might Dannan be the offspring of Gaiseric and this (I assume) elf woman?

Perhaps next episode we will get an explanation of what "living in the reason of time" means.
