Movies to look forward to

I have to admit Malick's earned a soft spot ... he's not very talked about, has quality releases over quantity - few or not, and really knows how to draw you in.

Of Gods And Men (trailer below) ... looks pretty good imo. Comes out for a Limited Release next month. I won't be in town for it (damnit) and hopefully it's still playing by the time I get back.

Putting this here until someone convinces me it belongs in the other thread. Honestly, I'm on the fence right now but I'm leaning toward optimism.

I'm guessing the CGI isn't in its final stage, but otherwise that looks fantastic. The cast is really good and it looks like the plot is devoid of the all wackiness introduced in the first trilogy.

Did you see Nightcrawler's red daddy? Classiest mutant I've ever seen. Best part of the trailer for me, obviously.

Underwhelming. I didn't like how they showed Professor X and Magneto. I'm guessing Xavier and Magnus will be friends just "because" and for plot sake, even though they'll be total opposites during the movie, making it more obvious and less ambiguous to the audience.
So far, i have no interest in this at all.

Looks unremarkable to me. Underwhelming, like NightCrawler said. More of the same tepid stuff we've been served for years now.

The problem i have with comic book movies is that they play it too safe. You don't feel any sense of danger in the obstacles that the heroes face.

I don't get the First Class title. I don't see any of the original X-Men class. Why couldn't they just pick a decent story or just reboot it properly? Announcing the movie like a prequel won't do it any good. And how will they explain Emma Frost being younger on the Wolverine movie which is set in the 80's than on this one, which is set in the 60's?

I'm with Walter on this one. I'm optimistic about it, but only time will tell. It couldn't be worse than X3...right? I enjoyed the first two X-Men movies, but the third was a colossal disappointment.

They might be completely disregarding X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Probably a good move on their part. Then again, as soon as a franchise moves from one director to another, a ton of inconsistencies pop up. Hank McCoy still looked human in X2, but then in X3 it was implied that he had been covered in blue fur for quite some time and had once been an X-Men.

It looks much better than I thought it would, but the inflated cast still worries me. Not to mention how prequels usually turn out in the first place.

Apparently Vaughn said that this movie is going to blow all the other superhero movies out of the water at the summer box office because the Xmen are a bigger household name than Captain America, The Green Lantern and Thor put together.

I don't really know what to say to something like that.

Wait Spider-man isn't owned by Fox, my bad. That's Sony pictures. I'm thinking Fantastic Four, which Fox has the rights to. Although I don't know if they still have them.

There were some strong rumors that Del Toro's adaptation of Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" would begin shooting this summer, with James Cameron as a producer and starring Tom Cruise. It seems now that Universal is backing out because of it being a R-rated 150M sci-fi horror film. Del Toro is still confident the project will eventually move forward at some point.
Well, even with all that star power backing such a movie, i doubt this will ever get made. But there's something bugging me... Why an R-rating in a Lovecraftian movie? I don't remember any gore or extreme violence in At the Mountains of Madness.

EDIT: Toro - "I think we’ve come so close with Mountains that to me it’s an indicator of the great possibility we will get to make it, as soon as possible. As long as the idea stays fresh and no one beats me to it, in terms of the origins of the monsters, the scope and the aspect of Antarctica where these creatures are discovered, I will continue to press forward. I’m knocking on wood."
"I do not want it to be bloody, I do not want it to be crass, but I want it to be as intense as possible."
