Goat
Foolish king
In one of (perhaps?) the most important episodes of the series - 362 - we get a look at what presumably is the first / original God Hand.
But, actually, apart from this image... very little is known. There are a lot of interesting discussions in the official episode 362 thread, but I wanted to focus on the God Hand in particular. Since we lack solid elements to have concrete ideas relatively to this group of entities and the specifics surrounding their birth, I think discussing and comparing ideas could produce some interesting opinions.
What are your personal theories and speculation(s) around those five?
I'll go with mine.
What I speculate is that before Void, there was no "God Hand". One thousand years ago... Void discovered something. Maybe a door to the Astral world, or maybe a way to get in contact with the Idea, in which a new stream of endless, inhuman knowledge illuminated his mind.
And with such knowledge, he became the Idea's agent and decided to prepare and craft - by himself - what actually is the right hand of Idea: the project of the God Hand, the presence of Idea in the Physical world.
The actuation of such project happened via a very unique ceremony, that is the one we can observe in 362, something that can I'll call "The First Incarnation" in this speculation post. A sacrifice ritual is performed, which gives birth to the first 4 members of the God Hand (+ Void, pre-existing to the ritual, ascended to a new level of existence).
Apart from Void, the first members of the God Hand are different compared to the ones of Griffith's Eclipse. But: each one of them is carrying some physical aspects that links him to the original God Hand. This makes me think that those God Hand members - and in general, every living being (even the apostles) we observe in the ritual are... prototypes, blueprints, an Idea of what they should represent. To me, the four GH members almost look like statues. Imperfect first realizations of a theoretically perfect, final concept.
What's Skull Knight's role during The First Incarnation?
We know what he presumably did: he fought until the very end. And he literally saved the world one thousand years ago - or at least, he delayed the execution of Void's and the Idea's project with his heroic gestures. It's hard to say exactly how he lost his life during this tragic encounter, but my speculation is that he was able to actually kill the four former members of the GH. They were prototypes, after all, blueprints: they weren't perfect. But all of that inhumanity was too much even for such an hero...
Void was left alone. He had ascended and could survive Skull Knight's fury, and started a slow process of rebuilding the God Hand, Eclipse after Eclipse. After all, when Griffith ascends in "his" eclipse... there's no former member, his place is empty, waiting for him. And with Femto's birth, the project execution is finally complete.
Feel free to demolish this stream of consciousness and to add yours!
