Berserk Character studies

Thank you, CnC, for the suggestion about Farnese's pic. I will bear that in mind next time.

Two more studies of Jill. I don't really like the first one (Jill2). Do you think her face is a little too broad? Foreshortening can be quite confusing.

Last night I decided to go back to the theme of Casca and the He-goat pseudo-apostle. Here is the new version.

Edit:
(Actually, I had the problem with Jill 3, not Jill 2.)

I don't mind Jill2's face (in fact I really like what you've done in that one), but in Jill3 it's definitely too broad, yeah. Still, good stuff in any case.

Vee...I am absolutely loving these character studies. Omg, I looked at them all just now. They're SO well done. You're very talented. Keep 'em coming. You and CnC are keeping Creation Station alive.

I like Jill2. But again the position of the eyes are off. If her head is down and angled to the left then the position of the eyes need to reflect that perspective.

Many thanks for the advise, CnC
I will probably struggle for a while with the perspective of eyes. Will try to practice this more.

For now, a pic of Serpico - based on the PS2 game version - slightly different from the comic version.

very nice, Vee. I like this one a lot. The back of his skull should be farther back, though

Here is another one. Based on one of Goya's Black paintings.

Today I did another one of Goya's variation:

Coming up with an idea is easy but I will have to redraw all of these sketches all over again when I decide to paint them in oil. They are obviously not perfect.
There is a quote which I remember..
"The gap between conception and execution is wide; and anything can happen in between".

Will definitely need a lot more critics for all of these sketches. Need to look through magazines/ art books and internet more to improve my anatomy knowledge.

Today I did a revision of a pic I posted earlier..

CnC suggested that Sonia's thigh was too short. I totally agree with him. Arms and legs are a bit longer this time.

Another pic today.. (sick of them yet?) :ganishka:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh30/vee209/Berserk%20Studies/rider.jpg

It's based on a painting by Rubens. I REALLY want to paint this one in oil.
Shame I did not plan the picture well in advance so I ran out of space. I definitely need more space on the left side and bottom part.

Any suggestions for Guts' position?

very cool pic, vee. Nah I'm not sick of them, I welcome all the hits the 'Station has been getting recently.

I say paint it. It looks good. Some issues with Zodds foot being a bit small and the shoulder on the right probably needs to be foreshortened a bit to line up with the torso more.
Guts feels a tad flat and the DS doesn't have the same presence that it could (I realize it's foreshortened a bit). But overall it looks good! :guts: :zodd:

I intend to start painting Farnese and Serpico soon. I did another preparatory drawing. Any modifications needed? I want to make sure that I get all the proportions correct before i start painting. Any comments welcome. Feel free to brutalise it if necessary. :chomp:

Here is another pencil drawing of Zodd.

That's awesome! :zodd:

As for advice with your work, I'm not an expert so I'll wait and let others critique.

Serpico's nose seems a bit long. Farnese, however, looks good to me (however something seems a bit wierd about the muscle depicted on her neck). Zodd is also quite good.

Zodd looks almost melancholy! I love it!

Yeah, Farnese's neck is a little bit off.

I started painting Serpico and Farnese pic in oil last Tuesday. Unfortunately, it takes a bit of time to dry so i'm afraid it will take at least a week before the oil paint is dry enough for me to scan. Will post updates later.

Here is a new quick sketch of Mozgus. May need some advises on the shadows as the body and hands still look a bit flat.. Many thanks.

well I'm stoked to see how the oil painting turned out. :serpico:

I really like the Mozgus sketch. It doesn't look all that flat to me. If I'm reading the contour right (it's a bit dark so I might be wrong) the right shoulder goes out a bit too far.

Overall, though, great work.

Can't wait to see the oil painting. As for Mozgus, it's very nice, but I agree with CnC that there's something strange with the shoulders, i.e. it's as if he's more buff on the right side than on the left.

This week: Farnese and Serpico's double portrait. This is the first underpainting step. Will be adding more colours one the first layer has dried.. Will work on the style of Rubens.
Please let me know if something looks not right. Best to correct everything now.

It's looking good. Something bugs me about Farnese's nose, the shadow under her lower lip, and the way Serpico's neck meets his chin. Other than that I really like the shading.
