Movies To Look Forward to

Im dont remember where i read it, but i read a review where it basically said the complete opposite, in that it was a masterpiece, best movie of the year etc. etc.

Either way, even if the movie is a bit of a let-down, I'll be sure to read the graphic novel aferwards. See what Aronofsky had REALLY intended the film to be.

Well, I'm not sure I'll be looking forward to this(Sean Bean as Rutger Hauer >> meh), but there may be someone out there who's gonna enjoy it.

Never seen the original, but now I think I will have to.

Btw, The Thing is also being remade :puck:

I enjoyed John Carpenter's sequel/"remake" of The Thing. I'm hoping this is along the same lines (by that I mean not a complete remake, but another continuation of the overall Thing story), but we'll just have to wait and see.

Saw the Prestige the other night, wasn't bad. Interesting but nothing special. So far the best movie I've seen in a fair while is the Departed (and I don't seem to be the only one who thinks so). If you haven't seen it, you should.

One movie I am somewhat looking forward to is the new Harry Potter one. The books are great but the movie's leave much to be desired so far IMO. Still, The order of the phoenix was my favourite book out of the 6 available, so even though the movie won't compare, it should still be a fun watch hopefully.

About The Fountain:

I've seen it twice now.
The first with all thoughts and criticisms hidden somewhere in the back of my mind in order to more easily make my own judgements.
The second, with those same thoughts refreshed, in order to find some validity (perhaps that's not the right word) in them.
The second viewing only cemented my first impression.
Yes, the script is, at times, clumsy and borders on corny, but it wasn't such a large detractor from the experience.
I didn't find the acting nor the characters of Tomas/Tommy and Isobel/Izzy particularly empty.
The film is beautiful. And for me, that's on every level.
The cinematography and soundtrack are breathtaking. The images are engrained in my skull and the music still plays in my mind. I thought it was moving, truth be told.
I remember questions and assumptions abounding of "will the Fountain be Aronofsky's 2001?" Well, as anyone who's seen it can tell you, it's nowhere near it and nothing like it.
I thought it was incredibly similar to 2046; they were only two numbers off. =)
They're similar in the ways they relay their heroes'/protagonists' emotions and personalities; through the litterature of its characters.
The metaphors, mirroring of storylines, etc. were all very easy for me to find on the first viewing, and that didn't ruin the second for me.
Maybe the film doesn't hold as many secrets as some would like, but it sits well with me and I think that each subsequent viewing will be as enjoyable, if not more so, as the first two.
It's not perfect - it can be awkward at times - but it was enough to satisfy this viewer.

I saw Tenacious D, and i thought it was hilarious. Come on, it has Meatloaf, Dio, and Dave Grohl as the devil!

Neil Hamburger also made a cameo.

You know, Neil Hamburger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW22Kv9N0mE&mode=related&search=

I have been playing Titan Quest recently, fun game, and this movie just goes with the mood. Excellent.

The last movie I saw int the theater was Casino Royal, which I though was excellent. I am looking forward to Pan's Labrynth, Ghost Rider (I am a comic whore) and 300 now. I watched Lucky Number Slevin this week on DVD, that was good too. I highly recommend that and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for a good rental.

On the matter of Apocalypto, save your time.

This was boring and ridiculous.

Not a redeeming quality in all of it.

really? I heard it was ok. But even if it were worth seeing, I'd probably just rent it.

I figured that was how it'd end up. I want to see it for the sole purpose of seeing how Gibson blames the Jews for the fall of the Mayans.

Yeah, Apocalypto never really seemed that interesting to me. But then again, so did Stranger than Fiction and that turned out to be alright.

I still need to see the Fountain.

Have any of you guys seen the trailer for Man Of The Year yet? It looks so funny and interesting.  It has Robin Williams in it and he plays a comedian (similar to John Stewart, Stephen Colbert, etc) who decides to run for president for laughs but he unexpectedly wins the presidency.  :serpico:

It came out a while ago, so I'm not sure if it's still in theaters or not. It was more of a dark comedy; quite different from how it appears in the trailer. I didn't think it was anything all that special. We'll just have to see what Rolling Stone thought of it, so my opinion might be wrong here.

I still want to see The Fountain, even though several of my friends who've seen it thought it was mediocre. I'll judge that for myself. :guts:
