I think Ep 3 has become Half Life 3 at this point. It'll have new tech (next level of Source, or something new).

Yeah, at this point it would be weird if it used the same exact engine and had nothing new. My bet is that it'll be released along with Half-Life 3 as little 2-3 hour prologue or something that bridges directly to HL3 like that.

I know everything changes, especially in video game business, but a couple years back Gabe Newell was like: "we're not gonna make HL3 that's for sure, don't even think about it, Ep.3 will end the franchise". But since you put it that way, at this point it is actually stupid to release it with an old engine, but even so, it's still gonna sell, I think.

Yeah I think at this point it's clear "Episode 3" is a meaningless name. It will effectively be Half-Life 3 regardless of what it's called.
